The 24 best dining venues for date nights

How wonderful is it to leave the kids at home and take your better half out for a date night. A few hours away from the kids is sometimes all you need to recharge, to indulge and to have some ‘us-time’.

Here are our top 24 tried-and-tested restaurants in KL, for that very special night out. Keep that flame burning!

Cheap and cheerful places

Bala’s Banana Leaf in Bangsar stands out for its cosy terrace setting, good parking options and pleasant service. Do try the salty lassi and the optional egg dishes.

Kim Lian Kee for hokkien mee. Either we order Grab or we head to the one in Lot 10 Hutong. If we head to the outlet in Lot 10, we tack on window shopping in the Bukit Bintang area.

An icon among the Chinese restaurants in KL: Siu Siu in Seputeh. Don’t expect golden service and white table linen, but the food is amazing and very affordable.

Mid range options for date night

Ganga Cafe 10 - Happy Go KL

The Ganga Café in Bangsar for vegetarian Indian food. The restaurant is open every day, from 8.30am till 9.30pm.

Le Gourmandin, a cosy French restaurant in Publika. Authentic pork-free French cuisine. Closed on Mondays.

Alexis Bistro at Jalan Telawi in Bangsar offers some of the most pleasurable dining and live music performances to be found in Kuala Lumpur.

Frangipaani in The Republik, Bukit Damansara offers great Indian food in a beautiful setting. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday evening you can enjoy a live pianist.

LI Damansara Jaya for Malaysian food with a contemporary twist.

Soleil, a modern European restaurant in DC Mall.

Concubine at Kwai Chai Hong is a guarantee for a great date night out with Asian style tapas. We love the tuna toastadas! You can book here (ask for terrace seats).

Table & Apron is a neighbourhood restaurant in Damansara Kim, Petaling Jaya. Contemporary and honest cooking, inspired by the joys of comfort food.

Mei by Fat Spoon in Desa Sri Hartamas offers Japanese inspired comfort food.

Marta’s Kitchen, also located in Desa Sri Hartamas offers great Spanish tapas.

Kayra for modern Indian cuisine in Bangsar Village II.

Leo’s Dining Room and Wine Bar in Bangsar, where the warm embrace of comfort food meets the sophistication of a curated wine bar.

Sushi Oribe in KLCC for Japanese fine dining, omakase style, where the customer leaves it up to the chef to select seasonal specialities and decide on every detail of their meal.

Luce in Old Malaya at Jalan Raja Chulan borrows its name and inspiration from the warm lights of the pizza wood-fire oven and the bright lights of KL Tower at its very doorstep.

High end venues

For very special occasions: DC Restaurant in TTDI. It’s a premium place, but worth every penny.

Entier French Dining at Alila Bangsar feels intimate, the food is always spot on and service on point.

Bocado is tucked away in the ECM Libra building. The venue oozes vibes of casual elegance in a Spanish-style setting. We’re impressed by their exquisite wine list. For reservations and event bookings, contact them at 012 923 3206.
