If any hopes of you getting a last minute table at the famous Fuego restaurant have been quickly extinguished, due to its popularity, don’t panic. Mr Chew’s Chino Latino Bar and Restaurant is a great alternative.
It’s right next door to Fuego in the Troika Building and boasts equally great views of the KL skyline. The food and cocktails are pretty and good too!
Why we rated this restaurant
- The KL skyline is in your eye line – after months of staring out of the same windows at home last year, you will particular enjoy taking in the iconic Petronas Towers and Menara Tower whilst feasting on your food or sipping your spirits.
- Well crafted cocktails – I went for the mouth watering Matchalada from the new and experimental menu, mainly because it drew me in with the words ‘white chocolate’. Whilst my husband tried Mr Chew’s delicious Daiquiri from the all day, everyday drinks menu. A slightly misleading claim, as the bar is only open from 5pm until 1am. But around 6.30pm would be an ideal time to head up there to watch the sun go down with a drink in hand.
- Beautiful food that’s tasty too – don’t judge us but we tasted a wide range of the food on offer. This included the nori tacos, char siew buns, spring rolls and special fried rice. The firm family favourite though was the crispy skin duck confit with pickled ginger onion and a Szechuan orange plum sauce.
- There is not a vast list of puddings to pick from, but I am reliably informed by my children that the banana burrito was to die for. I will have to take their word for it, as they inhaled it before I had time to pick up my fork. Next time I will order this deep fried banana wrapped in pancake, dulce de leche, shaved coconut and tonka bean ice cream all to myself!
Opening times and how to book a table
If your children are going through the exclusively eating-chicken-nuggets-or-spaghetti food stage, then it would probably be best to book a babysitter. But if they are willing to try something new and you fancy a treat, then I would recommend Mr Chew’s Chino Latino Bar and Restaurant at Troika Sky Dining. It opens daily, drinks are served from 5pm and food from 6pm.
