Cheap and cheerful places
Bala’s Banana Leaf in Bangsar stands out for its cosy terrace setting, good parking options and pleasant service. Do try the salty lassi and the optional egg dishes.
Kim Lian Kee for hokkien mee. Either we order Grab or we head to the one in Lot 10 Hutong. If we head to the outlet in Lot 10, we tack on window shopping in the Bukit Bintang area.
An icon among the Chinese restaurants in KL: Siu Siu in Seputeh. Don’t expect golden service and white table linen, but the food is amazing and very affordable.
Mid range options for date night
The Ganga Café in Bangsar for vegetarian Indian food. The restaurant is open every day, from 8.30am till 9.30pm.
Le Gourmandin, a cosy French restaurant in Publika. Authentic pork-free French cuisine. Closed on Mondays.
Alexis Bistro at Jalan Telawi in Bangsar offers some of the most pleasurable dining and live music performances to be found in Kuala Lumpur.
Frangipaani in The Republik, Bukit Damansara offers great Indian food in a beautiful setting. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday evening you can enjoy a live pianist.
LI Damansara Jaya for Malaysian food with a contemporary twist.
Soleil, a modern European restaurant in DC Mall.
Concubine at Kwai Chai Hong is a guarantee for a great date night out with Asian style tapas. We love the tuna toastadas! You can book here (ask for terrace seats).

Mei by Fat Spoon in Desa Sri Hartamas offers Japanese inspired comfort food.

Kayra for modern Indian cuisine in Bangsar Village II.
Leo’s Dining Room and Wine Bar in Bangsar, where the warm embrace of comfort food meets the sophistication of a curated wine bar.
Sushi Oribe in KLCC for Japanese fine dining, omakase style, where the customer leaves it up to the chef to select seasonal specialities and decide on every detail of their meal.
Luce in Old Malaya at Jalan Raja Chulan borrows its name and inspiration from the warm lights of the pizza wood-fire oven and the bright lights of KL Tower at its very doorstep.
High end venues
For very special occasions: DC Restaurant in TTDI. It’s a premium place, but worth every penny.
Entier French Dining at Alila Bangsar feels intimate, the food is always spot on and service on point.

Japas by Tokyo Michelin-starred Chef Jeff Ramsey is a Japanese ‘tapas wonderland’ in Damansara Heights.
Cilantro at MiCasa All Suite Hotel, Jalan Tun Razak is fine dining at its best. The restaurant is open every day except on Sundays.
Skillet offers modern European cuisine. The place feels really posh and is perfect for date nights. Located in the Cormar Suites, Jalan Perak.
Eat Chino, live Latino! Mr Chew’s Chino Latino Bar at Troika Sky Dining in KLCC is on a new dazzling height and open every day from 6pm.
