The Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as the Moon Cake or Lantern Festival will be celebrated soon, with mooncakes of course! While the traditions and practices differ across the region, it is all about celebrating the harvest.

Seasons come and go, flavours change, and moments together are a luxury. More than just a celebration, the Mid-Autumn Festival is also a cultural tradition that is close to many hearts. The mooncakes accompany this festive celebration.

Mooncakes are only available during the Mid-Autumn Festival. They vary from the traditional ones filled with red bean or lotus paste, to the modern ones, sometimes filled with ice cream. The selections and diversities seem endless and don’t those mooncakes look like a piece of heavenly art?! Too gorgeous to eat… that’s what we think! Grand Harbour

Grand Harbour Chinese Cuisine Restaurant celebrates this Mid-Autumn Festival with an array of exquisite and delectable handcrafted mooncakes. Varieties include traditional baked skin and snow skin mooncakes and they come in limited-edition gift boxes. Themed ‘Made by Hand, Baked with Heart’, relive the artistry of treasured Mid-Autumn traditions with 100% handcrafted mooncakes Each mooncake is lovingly baked from scratch, using the finest ingredients imported from Hong Kong. No preservatives are added.

For gifting, you can opt for the Premium Gift Box, which consists of White Lotus Double Yolk, White Lotus Single Yolk, Supreme Nuts with Ham and Jade Lotus Single Yolk. Signature Market

Healthy living starts with what you eat! At Signature Market the spirit of togetherness is celebrated with a few beautiful and healthy mooncake gift boxes. Their yummy mooncakes come fresh from the ovens of Tai Thong.

The Abundance of Joy gift box comprises one Shanghai yam single yolk mooncake and three packs of nuts. With its rich butter pastry, tender salted egg yolk, yam and black sesame paste and melons seeds, this mooncake has got the perfect balance of salty and sweet flavours. EQ Kuala Lumpur

EQ is proud to present Celestial Treasures, a collection of traditional baked mooncakes for those who prefer the classics, and hand-crafted snow skin mooncakes for the more contemporary of palates. They only sell sets, no individual mooncakes. Try special flavours like Taro with Sugar Winter Melon and Chinese Pickles and the Yuzu Pandan variety. Four Points by Sheraton Kuala Lumpur 

This year, the soon-to-be-opened Lady Yi’s Tea House sticks to tradition by presenting four perennial favourites – White Lotus Seed with Single Yolk, Red Bean, GreenTea and Durian. More info here.

Hilton Kuala Lumpur

Admire the Jade Moon, with Hilton’s opulent ceramic tea set and Chynna’s Signature Eight Treasures Tea with your choice of Hilton’s traditional baked or snow skin mooncakes. Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur

Malaysian fashion designer Melinda Looi designed the boxes for this year’s mooncakes… We think they look gorgeous! Encasing the velvety mooncakes, the packaging design features ‘The Grand Gambit’ which comes with a dashing chess board. Try mooncakes with traditional essences, like White Lotus and Black Sesame, or modern elements like Salted Caramel and Dark Chocolate Truffle.

Dorsett Grand Subang

Let’s go on a mooncake journey with some old favourites alongside new flavours, like the newly created Mango Lotus with Custard mooncake. Sounds delicious! Crystal skin mooncakes come in a eski bag, while traditional baked mooncakes come in a box which can be repurposed as a lantern for the young ones. This year’s ice cream mooncakes flavour line-up is a mix of old and new: Chocolate Orange Pop, Durian wrapped with green snow skin, Peanut Sesame with a black sesame ganache centre and Unicorn.

Luk Yu Tea House has created a collection of nine handmade snow skin mooncakes in light pastel shades. Crafted flavours characterise this medley of mooncake selections, including enticing combinations such as the Chilled Snow Skin Pandan Mooncake with Black Sesame, Charcoal Crystal Mooncake with Matcha and Snow Skin Mooncake with Aromatic Durian Puree. The hotel is selling homemade Snow Skin Mooncakes, available with Musang King Durian and Bird’s Nest with Red Dates. In the spotlight this year are Yun House x Bar Trigona Mooncakes, reflecting cocktail-inspired tastes from the award-winning bar. Also on offer are Baked Mooncakes with luxurious fillings such as Pu Er Tea Paste with Tangerine Skin, ‘Szechuan’ Ma La Mung Bean and Mango with Lotus Seed Paste.
