Hi Tea buffet at the Hilton, Petaling Jaya

As much as we love the small cozy restaurants in KL, we also enjoy hotel buffets once in a while. Especially with picky kids, this is a great way to please every member of the family.

The buffet

The Hilton hotel in PJ invited us for their buffet on a Sunday afternoon. We felt overwhelmed by the food choice, being mainly Asian dishes. Both kids started with dessert and on a Sunday afternoon we didn’t really bother. Jelly and small colourful tarts filled their belly and the satay station was their next stop. That’s about all our youngest one ate.

Our oldest is a real foodie though. He tried the fresh crab, chicken tandoori, grilled lamb and ate it all. Parents started with one of the ‘do it yourself’ noodle soup choices, followed by some typical Asian dishes: chicken tandoori with naan (naan was quite tough), fish curry, steamed seabass with soy sauce and ginger, Chinese wok, sushi, mee hoon and so much more. There was just too much for everyone! Although we both don’t have a sweet tooth, we tried the green tea cake and some fruit cakes, which were tasty but didn’t make us long for more.

Kids activities

What makes the buffet at Hilton PJ great for families, is the range of kids activities. Every Saturday and Sunday between 1.30pm and 3.30pm, the hotel offers kids entertainment, just next to the restaurant. After lunch, our kids had fun with the sand art. We also saw some of the smaller children playing with blocks. On the advertisement we read about a clown, face painting and story time. Unfortunately, this was not available on the day of our visit. We also spotted baby chairs for little ones.

Tip: if you have smaller kids, you might want to sit close to this area to keep an eye on them.

Overall experience

What we missed in this restaurant was ambiance; we felt that some nice decorations and art on the walls could make this place more cosy. The kids really enjoyed the buffet and they had fun in the kids zone. The price is very reasonable, compared to most other hotel buffets in the city. The restaurant staff was super friendly and helpful.

The buffet is open on Saturday, Sunday and on public holidays. It’s RM122 nett per adult and RM66 per child.

We will soon have a post on family-friendly Christmas buffets in KL. Make sure to keep an eye out for it!

We were invited by Hilton PJ. All opinions, as always, are honest and our own!
