Would you like to discover the magical world of science, or find out everything you’d like to know about optical illusions!? There are a lot of great museums in Klang Valley within easy reach and it makes for a great day out with the kids.
Have a look at our favourite museums where kids and adults alike can wander for many hours, to learn and to have fun at the same time.
1. Museum of Illusions
This one is for the fun ones amongst us! The museum offers two floors of mind bending pictures, fabulous photo opportunities and perplexing puzzles to keep your brain busy. The museum is open 10am to 10pm every day of the week. You’ll find it on the first floor of the Ansa Hotel, that is sandwiched between the Lot 10 and Fahrenheit 88 shopping malls on Jalan Bukit Bintang.
If you want to find out more, visit their website here, email them here or call 017 2282 890. More info here in our review.
2. Bank Negara Malaysia Museum
The purpose of the Museum is to educate the public on Malaysia’s economy and economic history, as well as the Central Bank’s role in the nation’s economic development. The folks at Bank Negara have managed to successfully turn a dry and dull topic into something fun and fascinating!
The Bank Negara Malaysia Museum and Gallery is located in Bukit Tunku and is open from 10am – 6pm daily and entrance to the galleries is free. Please note that bags will be checked upon entry to the building and are not allowed into the galleries. More info here in our review or here on the museum’s website.
3. National Science Centre
A great place in Bukit Damansara, with enough buttons to press and space to run around to tire even the most energetic toddler. The space rocket slide, ball shooting play structure and a fenced-off toddler play area can be found in the central area under the big dome. The centre has got three separate areas downstairs with changing exhibitions. Have a look at our review here.
4. The National Museum
Any visitor would benefit from the crash course on the history of Malaysia on display at the Muzium Negara and an added bonus is the Gloria Jeans outlet just outside the main entrance. The museum is located just south of the Botanical Gardens, in Sentral.
For the opening hours and more info on the National Museum, see their website. More here in our review.
5. Royal Selangor Visitor Centre
Royal Selangor Visitor Centre in Wangsa Maju is great fun for all. You can enjoy a guided tour of the small museum and factory. There are a lot of beautiful and interesting artefacts to look at and lots of exhibits that kids can interact with – they will especially enjoy the big mirrors.
The centre organises workshops. ‘The School of Hard Knocks’ is a 30-minute class and is suitable for primary school children. Costs are RM65. If you have older kids (over 15 years of age) or just fancy creating something yourself, you can also take part in a longer 60-minute workshop called ‘The Foundry’ for RM180. More in our review here.
6. Ilham Gallery
This is not your typical museum, but worth to mention in this listicle. The Ilham Kids! Art Discovery Tours at Ilham Gallery are fantastic for kids. They can learn how to get started on art appreciation.
