Walking inside the 1664 lounge at Workshop 3, Sentul Depot, is like being emersed into an ocean of blue hues. Inspired by the blue-coloured bottle of the French beer brand, 1664 has redesigned Workshop 3 into a modern bistro decked in shades of 1664’s iconic blue. Beer, snacks, fun activities, and cool music. What more could you wish for?
For a few weeks, upmarket food hall Tiffin at the Yard has got a temporary neighbour. At the 1664 lounge, you can indulge in 1664 Blanc, 1664 Rosé and relish in a spread of gourmet bites. Let’s have a look inside.
1664’s Bon Appetit-lah lounge
“Mmmm, crisp, with a hint of sweetness, but just a little. Very nice!”, my plus one commented, after her first sip of the 1664 beer. I fully agreed with her and down went another one. We both decided that the 1664 Blanc was more to our liking than the Rosé variant, but of course, that is a personal choice.
After some thorough sampling of the two types of beers, we wandered around to search for some bites. Perhaps it would have been wise to do this the other way around – alcohol is better digested when preceded by some food.
Snacks on display were provided by a few independent food parties. NoLabel Cuisine, Waka Waka Gelato – beer infused ice-cream anyone?! – The Bao Guys and Flaaah The Bakery were competing for the patrons’ attention.
Our favourite? Definitely the buns from the Bao Guys. Each one is prepared for you on the spot and the soft bread combined with crunchy chicken were delish and went very well with the 1664 Blanc. Baotiful! At another counter we tried a sweet pastry with salmon cream, which wasn’t for me. Back to the buns…
Fun with portraits and music
Up next was a corner called ‘Portraits with a Twist’, where clever artists were drawing digital caricatures of the guests on laptops. Not to be missed and the artists are only present on selected days, so it’s worthwhile to inquire beforehand when they will be there. There is also a wall where you’re invited to scribble on, as well as a counter where you can turn a blue beer bottle into your own piece of art. Not much chance to get bored…
While we were enjoying our beers and snacks at the lounge, a band was playing some great songs. A DJ took over after that with some cool tunes. We had a fantastic evening!
