SNAPSHOT: restaurant Shook!

There has been a shake up at the old favourite restaurant Shook! Based at the heart of the city in the Starhill Gallery, Bukit Bintang, this once popular eatery closed its doors nearly a year ago to get a face lift. The result is a much younger looking and serving flavours from around the world.

You won’t be surprised to hear that after months at home, it didn’t take a lot of persuading for three of the HappyGoKL team to escape from their families for an evening to polish off a Shook sampler menu, paired beautifully with some fine adult conversation.

We started off with the satay, which I was reliably informed had the right balance of meat to fat content and scored a solid 9/10 with our self proclaimed satay stick experts. This was followed by a deliciously, creamy chowder. We also tasted not one but two of the main dishes that are on offer. The first was a mouth watering miso lobster linguine and the second a rather lovely ayam goreng.

By the end of this festive feast at Shook! we felt more stuffed than a turkey on Christmas Day, but couldn’t resist rounding off the meal with a selection of cakes. We all agreed that the raspberry biscuity one (not its official name) was the best.

Whilst Shook! used to be famous for its buffets, it is currently only able to offer an a la carte selection, which I don’t feel is exorbitantly priced given the restaurant setting and quality of the food on offer.

However, where as last year at Christmas we were loosening our belts after one too many buffets, this year everyone has had to tighten their financial belts so it’s worth knowing that appetisers start at RM40 and the cheapest main meal will cost you RM70. But if you want one of the top quality Wagu steaks on offer, not surprisingly, you will have to fork out a lot more.
