Selera Kampong Enak festive dining at Shook!

If you crave for the nostalgia of breaking fast in a traditional Malay food setting, the ‘Selera Kampong Enak’ buffet at Shook! is definitely for you. To comply with the SOPs of social distancing, Shook! opens its restaurant plus the event hall next door, to cater for more guests at the Ramadan buffet.

Plastic gloves for self-service

We were delighted that we could get our food from the buffet ourselves, without being served by staff. Plastic disposable gloves are provided to each guest, before we were allowed to scoop up our food. As a token of appreciation for the guests, Shook! tastemaker Chef Rafizan demonstrated the cooking of the famous dish ‘Ikan Masak Lemak Tempoyak’ (fish cooked with fermented durian paste). I did not try this dish, as I am not a big fan of durian, but other guests commented how creamy and tasty this dish was.

Amazing flavours

The dishes here are all traditional and authentic Malay food, cooked with age-old kampong recipes that have been passed through generations. I started off with the signature ‘sup tulang’ (oxtail soup). Oh my… it was so rich in flavour and the oxtails were tender, but not overcooked. Another thumb up dish was the beef rendang a.k.a. ‘Rendang Daging Tok’. The beef was tender (like pulled beef) with a rich rendang flavour and it was not too spicy. I moved on to the roasted lamb, which was juicy, tender in the middle and cooked perfectly. The chicken and beef satays were everyone favourite too. Chef Rafizan’s varieties of sambals will definitely spice up your taste as well!

Moving to the dessert section, you will find varieties of local kuih-muih, agar-agar (jelly), cendol and more local desserts, as well as fresh fruits. Most of the local desserts are cooked with coconut milk, so it is quite rich in flavour and it definitely clears any spicy taste from your mouth!

The ‘Selara Kampong Enak’ festive buffet runs from 16 April until 13 May 2021, from 6.30 – 10pm. This scrumptious Ramadan buffet comes at a reasonable price for RM 98 per adult and RM 49 per child. More info here.
