In the past few months, we coped with either monsoon weather or severe heat waves. It has been quite a challenge to plan an outdoor activity for the family. A great way to combine exercise, shopping and dining altogether is taking the kids to The Gardens Mall and play a round of indoor golf at the MST Golf Arena.
We had been there before for a children’s birthday party, where the kids could have a go at golf with the help of instructors. Fortunately, it had proven to be a hit (no pun intended!) with both kids and parents, so we decided to return with the family.
What’s on offer?
Situated on the 2nd floor of The Gardens Mall and open since last year, the MST Golf Arena is located next to the MST Golf flagship store. It’s quite a large venue spanning 40,000 sq. ft of entertainment, food and retail. It combines 20 golf practice simulators and a putting area with dining facilities, where you can enjoy a game and/or have a meal and drink at your own pace.
There are also private suites available in case you want to practice with a more intimate gathering of friends. If you need some help, the golf instructors (PGA certified) on-site will be happy to assist.
You can also try out the Golf Academy lessons. For beginners, there are classes every Sunday and Thursday mornings.
Ready to swing!
We arrived early at 10am at the MST Golf Arena and decided to go for a Deluxe Suite, that easily fits six people. There is an extensive food and drinks menu with various promotions and seasonal specials being offered. While our equipment was being prepared and the system set up, we enjoyed their breakfast set. What more relaxed way to start a golf session?
We could choose to warm up at the driving range or select one of the 30 golf courses available, ranging from easy to difficult thus suited to the players’ level. In the meantime, the kids could enjoy other games that could improve their ball accuracy. Our kids of 6 and 9 years old had a try at swinging clubs and had fun learning some basic golf lingo.
It was a great way to spend a day indoors doing something different other than merely (window) shopping. We can’t wait to have a next go at golf at the Arena!

You pay per hour, but special deals and packages are available. The cheapest hourly rate for a simulator bay on weekday mornings is RM60, whilst evening rates start at RM80. The Deluxe Suite rates vary between RM120 – 160 per hour, and the bigger Executive Suite (for groups of 8 – 12) is being charged between RM160 – 220. Weekend rates are higher.
No need to bring your own clubs: the MST Golf Arena offers free clubs to customers (including kids’ clubs), and there are even sets available for those left-handed (only for men though).
