FRIM Forest Skywalk – for a walk on the wild side

If you like the great outdoors and don’t mind a huge amount of stairs or heights, then I recommend you try the FRIM Forest Skywalk. This is FRIM’s second canopy walkway and can be found in the Kepong Botanical Gardens.

The tallest part of the construction is the 50 metre tower, but luckily under 13s are not allowed up, so I had to stay with my children rather than climb to the extra tall part.

Some top tips for FRIM Forest Skywalk

You should definitely book in advance, and try for an earlier slot rather than the afternoon, as it is more likely to rain and then it will be shut for safety reasons. It only takes around 20 to 30 minutes to complete the walk.

Under 7s are not allowed on the Skywalk. I would only recommend it for over 7s that are able to climb countless numbers of stairs without complaining and promise not to jump on the bridge walkways to make it wobble when you are up there.

The safety talk is given in Bahasa. Don’t worry if you don’t understand, it only lasts three minutes and I am assuming the advice given is common sense. Once it is over, you are free to start your ascent 33 metres up to the tallest bridge in small groups.

Wear sensible walking shoes and clothes and if you want to take a drink with you I suggest you put it in a bag, so you have both hands free to cling to the slides of the steps and bridge.

If you are driving to The Forest Skywalk and using Waze, you need to follow directions to Kepong Botanical Gardens or Taman Botani Kepong and not FRIM like we did. But if you do make that mistake, please don’t panic; it is only a three minute drive to the right place.

The path to the walkway is signposted from the carpark and it will take you 10 minutes to get to the Skywalk hut where you register. They suggest arriving 30 minutes before the timeslot you have booked.

Useful info for The Forest Skywalk

You can only book tickets online, plus as numbers are limited they do sell out, so I recommend booking ahead of time. The earliest Skywalk slot you can book starts at 8.30am and the last slot available is 3.30pm. On Fridays the Skywalk is closed all day for maintenance.

The cost for students aged 7 to 17 is RM8 with a MYKAD but climbs to RM25 without one. For adults it’s RM15 with a MYKAD and RM40 without. There is an additional cost to go up the 50 metre tower.

For more information and to book tickets, please visit the FRIM Forest Skywalk website here. Remember to smile when you are 141 metres above sea level, surrounded by majestic trees, holding on for dear life and taking a selfie!
