A spa-cation at DoubleTree by Hilton Damai Laut

Picture this: the kids are happily playing in the pool, their dad is watching them with a glass of ice-cold beer and mum is enjoying a spa treatment. Only in your dreams? Let me take you to a place where these dreams actually come true…

Is there any beach resort within 3 hours drive from KL? Yes, there is! Formerly known as the Swiss-Garden Resort, the completely renovated and refurbished DoubleTree by Hilton Damai Laut has got a great play-pool for kids, brand-new rooms and best of all: a spa.

Sitting on a hill overlooking the Strait of Malacca, the resort gives access to two very nice beaches, both only a few steps down from the place. Here you can enjoy plenty of watersport activities like banana boats and jet skis and they’ve got beach buggies for rent. There is a golf course nearby as well.

Rooms with a view

We stayed at the King Guestroom with sea view and a balcony. Our room was very comfortable, and the bathroom was spacious. I loved the complimentary Crabtree & Evelyn shower products. The balcony is tiny, but still ok for cozy after-dinner drinks. If you prefer a bigger area to relax, the outdoor Sundown Area in front of Makan Kitchen is very nice and has got the best sunset views.

Eforea Spa

Entering Eforea Spa, which opened in August this year, I met with the friendly spa manager Nora, who was more than happy to show me around. A separate room with spectacular views over the ocean and Pangkor Island, is dedicated to foot and shoulder massages. Across from the comfortable waiting lounge you can find the rooms for the other treatments, like body massage and facials. You can have a look here for their extensive spa menu.

The products used at Eforea Spa are from Kerstin Florian. Their products are environmentally friendly, and they don’t use animals to test their products on. Another plus!

You can get a good massage anywhere. There is a big difference though between having a good massage and a superb one. For me, it’s all in the details! I chose a body massage and a mini-facial. Laying on a comfortable bed in a nicely decorated room, my mind was filled with zen after my therapist Ann sounded a singing bowl. A breathing exercise while inhaling the scent of lavender was the start of a blissful massage experience and the facial afterward was refreshing.

In between the massage and the facial, Ann adjusted the bed, so my knees were supported while laying on my back. Fantastic! A neroli-scented mist sprayed over my face completed an hour of heaven on earth. A superb experience indeed.

Make sure to book ahead of your stay. You can call the spa at 05 684 3333 or email them here.

Makan Kitchen

Dinner and breakfast the next day at Makan Kitchen were very nice. My favourite dish was the varuval lamb from the Indian food corner. We also loved the teh tarik, which was served with breakfast in the morning, always a nice spectacle to watch. Have a look here at all their dining options. Fireworks are displayed every Saturday evening at 8.15pm.

Festive month

There will be a Christmas Dinner Buffet on 24 and 25 December and a NYE Dinner Buffet on 31 December, all priced at RM150 nett per adult and RM75 nett per child. For bookings, please call 05 684 3333 or email the resort here. On 24 and 25 December 2023, there will be special fireworks in the evening at the Sundown Area outside of Makan Kitchen. If you’d like more info about the resort, have a look here at their website.

You could pass by the Sky Mirror in Kuala Selangor on your way up to Lumut, for some great pictures with the family.
