A pool-based workout at Babel Fit

Last Friday morning, four friends and I went to the ultra-cool TTDI rooftop gym Babel Fit, to try this new water work out. Babel Fit is located in TTDI and offers pool-based workouts on inflatable beds, fixed to the side of the pool. It’s Malaysia’s first-ever aquatic regime!

Upon walking in, we were quite impressed with the gorgeous gym. There are various workout rooms for cycling, free weights, an aerobics room, and an outdoor rooftop deck, which looked great for early morning sunrise yoga sessions. We were then asked to place our items in lockers and make our way to the pool.

Let the fun begin…

There were eight beds in the pool and the instructor took the middle one. We jumped as well and we started with some easy warm up exercises like planking, push-ups, and stretching. Then came the more challenging jumping squats, walking front and back (tilting the board precariously), half shoulder stands, and shoulder stand rotations. The instructor was very thorough in his explanations, and he always gave us an easy and more challenging options, to fit our individual fitness abilities.

We finished the 45-minute session with a cool down à la yoga style, with lying down on our backs to catch our breath. I must say I was tired and more than a little sweaty! It was lovely to roll over and submerge myself in the cool waters after the class.

Splashing, laughing, fun, it was a perfect morning for me. Screeching and falling in the blissful and cool water on a hot day was a great way to work out. I would thoroughly recommend it as a great core workout and a fun way to spend with friends.

You also have access to an amazing luxurious changing room with a sauna, showers, Dyson hair dryers and even sunblock and some basic toiletries so you can leave fully refreshed. Better and better!

Tips

Bring a hat as the sun can be quite glaring and comfortable workout clothes or swimsuit. Parking on the main road is usually full by 8am, so head to the underground parking, which is super easy, though maybe a bit pricey. I paid RM12 for four hours.

Useful info

Labelled as HIIT20 and touted as a ‘fat burning, high intensity and full body workout’, you can find the list of 450 scheduled classes on offer here under Curated Group Classes – look for BURN. I didn’t bring my teenage daughters, but it would have been very suitable for them as well.

With quite an affordable pricing structure (the front desk mentioned RM280/month and if you pay upfront you get some retail credit to redeem Babel’s own active wear and merchandise), those living in TTDI or nearby locales like Mont Kiara, Damansara Heights, should definitely check them out.
