Wind of Nomads: a percussion show opening soon

HANDS Percussion is back with a new show that is bound to impress! The Wind of Nomads is a 1.5 hour concert featuring several new works on African and Asian percussion. This is the culmination of a three-year project between HANDS and Dafra Drums of Burkina Faso, West Africa. The organisers recommend this concert for school aged kids and up, but obviously not for those sensitive to loud sounds! The best news is that we have free tickets to give away to our readers – head over to our Facebook page for a chance to see the show for free!

Why the title, Wind of Nomads? Since the beginning of time, humans have migrated, re-imagining and rebuilding their lives through beauty, tolerance and innovation. Wind of Nomads is a metaphor reflecting human and cultural migration, the passage of energies throughout generations, globalization and integration. This work is inspired by the soul of two of the world’s great deserts in Africa and China. It will be a travel in time and space with the ancient Manding Empire (West Africa) rhythms on Djembés and DunDun bass drums, and Chinese drums and techniques.

“This exciting and percussive new work is a multicultural and multi-artistic melting pot. The stage will vibrate with rhythm and movement, simulating a poetic earthquake”, it is described. Marimba player Tan Su Yin will be collaborating in this production.
