This week in our Snapshot series: The Habitat at Penang Hill. This is a 1.6km long forest trail at the top of Penang Hill in Penang. There is also a 230 meter long canopy walk, which allows you to have a good view of the 130 million years old rainforest below.
You will find several themed gardens along the trails, like the Fern Garden, Butterfly Bank, the Fragrant Garden and the Ginger & Palm Grove. There are also educational signs positioned to educate and learn along the way. My kids loved the two big swings along the forest trail; very insta worthy!
Do not missed The Curtis Crest Tree Top Walk, as this is the ‘star attraction’ of The Habitat. It is on the highest point of the hill and you can have a good 360-degree view of Penang.
Zip line for dare devils
The whole walk is very pleasant because of the cool weather, the sounds of birds and other forest animals, as well as the smell of nature. A very nice change from the busy city tour through Georgetown and the beaches of Penang.
If you are a dare devil and not afraid of heights, you could try The Flight of the Colugo Zip, an adventure course comprising of five zip lines, one abseil and one rope bridge. This comes with a surcharge.
Coffee with a view
There is a shop and a café at the end of the trails. You can have a lovely cup of coffee or tea here, or buy a couple of The Habitat souvenirs before heading down to the starting point. You can take a complimentary buggy down to the starting point or you can choose to walk down. Along the way there are a few good spots to stop for lovely photos of Penang.
Beside the standard entrance you may also opt for other experiences like the Kancil Walk, The Forest Bathing Experience or The Premium Rainforest Experience. Please head over to The Habitat website here for more info. The Habitat is open every day from 9am till 7pm.
Tip: please check out their website for monthly promo tickets. We enjoyed a 50% discount on our tickets paying via e-wallet. We will definitely come back again on my next visit to Penang!
