A new artistic avenue unveils at Renaissance Kuala Lumpur Hotel & Convention Centre inviting the community to embrace the local art scene in a different light. The Art Walk sets the stage for diverse Malaysian artists to share their artistry through serial pop-up showcases in one place. Designed to celebrate the spirit of the neighbourhood and support the creative community, The Art Walk offers an emerging discovery of homegrown artists, arts and cultures for a newfound experience.
The Art Walk supports the local art scene by collaborating with homegrown independent artists and art galleries, offering them an avenue to exhibit their work. The pop-up concept, spanning within one quarter or less, is designed to engage the community in a curated sense. The debut of The Art Walk kicks off with a pop-up showcase in collaboration with ZHAN Art | Space and RAAQUU, featuring emerging artists like Haris Rashid, oodplex, Peisy Ting, and Adil Abdul Ghani. The pop-up showcase will be home to their extraordinary work for a period of time from September to end of October.
Complex General Manager Bipan Kapur shares, “With the growing pool of homegrown artists we see in the recent times, we pride in bringing The Art Walk to life to support the local art scene. As a hotel and a brand, we are always happy to explore this sort of opportunity that connects us back to the neighbourhood, echoing our purpose at Renaissance. Working with local artists and art galleries allows our spaces to be put to greater use, while it also enables the community to engage in a different setting. To ensure the long-term success of The Art Walk, we hope to reach more homegrown talents from the community, and any new opportunities are more than welcomed.”
Featured artists at The Art Walk
Presented by ZHAN | Art Space, Haris Rashid has always been drawn towards the art scene at a young age, inspired by his mother. He continues to develop his visual language over the years with an aptitude for fantastical fusion art revolving around flora and fauna.
Peisy Ting pursued an artistic path in 2015 to fulfil her passion. The dynamic Kuala Lumpur-based artist often explores the dynamics of duality. Her work has been featured in international galleries and exhibitions, attesting to her artistic growth through a multi-layered visual experience.
oodplex, known as Lee Ren Chang, is a Malaysia-based designer toy artist. His recent creation highlights Ben, a mushroom-like creature, which was featured as the titular character in his first solo exhibition, BLEAK. oodplex has also participated in various toy shows across the globe.
RAAQUU, a ceramic art brand founded in 2020, was the brainchild of ceramic maestro, Adil Abdul Ghani. His interest in Raku pottery started about two decades ago where he was enamoured with the art of Raku during a ceramics training program in Japan. Adil honed his expertise in all things Raku ever since, earning him the recognition for the ingenious inception of RAAQUU today.
The Art Walk now features a pop-up showcase of these homegrown artists until end of October 2024. Explore their work up close at Ground Floor of Renaissance Kuala Lumpur Hotel & Convention Centre, opens daily with no entrance fee.
