This festive month, The Ritz-Carlton Kuala Lumpur, a name synonymous with luxury and gastronomic delight, is hosting a fabulous feast that takes the culinary experience to new heights.
The ritzy festive feast, held in the elegant Cobalt Room, is a symphony of flavours, focusing primarily on Thai cuisine. The person behind this culinary journey is Thai Master Chef Rasikan, hailing from Shook! at The Starhill Dining. With a specially curated menu that showcases her creations inspired by the sister restaurant, Pak Tai at The Ritz-Carlton Koh Samui, guests are treated to an unforgettable dining experience.
Quality over quantity
The feast which I was lucky to experience, is characterised by an ethos of quality over quantity. Unlike typical buffets that sometimes overwhelm with the sheer number of dishes, Ritz-Carlton Kuala Lumpur opted for a more refined approach. The selection might not be extensive, but each dish is a masterpiece of flavour, technique, and presentation.
In addition to Thai specialties, the feast also includes Malay specialties, ensuring there is something to satisfy every palate.
Let the feasting begin
From the start, the appetisers stole the show for me with their vibrant colours, textures, and beautifully carved fruit.
The highlight was fresh, on-the-spot preparation of mango and papaya salads, delighting guests with their refreshing zingy flavours. The extensive array of salads also featured some lovely combinations, such as pineapple and cucumber, offering a nice contrast to the rich, bold tastes of the main dishes.
For the main dishes, Chef Rasikan’s menu featured popular dishes such as Phad Ka Phow Nua (stir-fried beef with chilli garlic and Thai holy basil) and Geang Keaw Whan Gai (green curry chicken), alongside favourites like Chu Chee Goong (shrimp in red curry with kaffir lime leaves), Pla Neung Manao (steamed fish in coriander with lime, chilli and garlic sauce) and Tom Yum Goong.
My plus one’s standout moment of the evening however, was the live preparation of Phad Thai Goong Sod in tamarind sauce by a very skilled Thai chef. Watching the dish come together was as much a treat for the senses as tasting it. The seamless blend of sweet, sour, and savoury notes, coupled with the chewy texture of the noodles, was a hit with pretty much everyone there.
Obviously I also lingered, probably a bit too long, in the desert section which offered such goodies as Kuih Sarang Semut, Kek Batik, French pastries and the king of Thai desserts – mango sticky rice.
Not just about the food at The Ritz-Carlton Kuala Lumpur
However I have to emphasise that the ritzy feast is not just about the food; it is also a blend of good, friendly service and a warm atmosphere. Saying that, I do think that whilst the Cobalt Room exudes understated elegance, it could benefit from a touch more in terms of decor to match the overall richness of the dining experience.
In conclusion, the festive feast at The Ritz-Carlton Kuala Lumpur is a testament to the hotel’s commitment to providing top dining experiences. Thanks to the talent of Chef Rasikan and her dedicated team, guests are treated to an evening of culinary excellence that truly celebrates the splendours of Thai cuisine.
