Osteria Emilia: new kid on the block for traditional Italian food

Osteria Emilia

I am always on the lookout for new places which offer nice food, welcoming ambiance and prices that don’t break the bank. And I’m glad to say that I managed to add another one to my ever growing list!

Welcome to Osteria Emilia, the latest addition to the vibrant food scene in 163 Retail Park. Nestled amidst the bustling streets of Mont Kiara, this charming Italian restaurant offers a unique dining experience that combines the best of Italian flavours with a touch of class.

This new kid on the block doesn’t compromise on quality or authenticity.

While many Italian establishments in the area may charge exorbitant prices for a taste of Italy, Emilia offers delicious, traditional dishes without any hidden charges. I visited it with two of my girlfriends and all three of us came away very impressed.

The ambiance

Upon arrival, we were greeted by a spacious, inviting atmosphere adorned with cozy brown and green accents. The main central area boasts a captivating vaulted ceiling design, equipped with comfortable booths.

Separating this section from the next is a very impressive wine shelf, serving as both a functional and aesthetic element. The second part of the restaurant features round booths and intimate tables. The interior is tasteful and basked in light coming through the huge windows.

Food at Osteria Emilia

When it comes to food, Osteria Emilia specialises mainly in pizzas and pastas, with a limited selection of other dishes like mains and risotto. This restaurant is non-halal and offers a variety of pork-based dishes.

As part of the Tinkermen restaurant collective, Osteria Emilia has a Proof-inscribed oven which allows guests to indulge in all the delectable pizza creations from Proof, available in medium and large sizes. Some must tries are Pizza Umbrian Black Truffle, which I ordered for my husband as take away or the Pizza Parma con Rucola.

For the three of us we opted for the classic Pizza Margherita, the Mushroom Risotto, and the Vegetable  Platter. Each dish was prepared with care and attention to detail, resulting in excellent flavours that left us craving for more.

Those looking for a great value lunch option will be pleased to hear that Emilia offers great value set lunches, making it a popular choice for lunchtime. Needless to say the restaurant was packed when we were there.

Drinks to go along with your meal

One of the standout features of Osteria Emilia is its impressive selection of wines. Whether you are a wine connoisseur or simply enjoy a good glass with your meal, you are sure to find a wine that suits your taste. For the non-drinkers there is a selection of juices, soft drinks, tea and coffee as well as a nice choice of kombucha.

We traditionally opted for a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc and it complimented our meal very nicely.

While the overall experience at Osteria Emilia was great, the service left a bit to be desired. It is understandable that masks are necessary for safety reasons, but that did make communication a little difficult. Additionally, there were some communication struggles that could benefit from improvement. However, this did not significantly impact our enjoyment of the meal.

Whether you’re looking for a cozy date night, a casual gathering with friends, or a memorable dining experience, Osteria Emilia might be the perfect choice for you.

For an Italian option in Petaling Jaya, we like Bottega PJ.
