Where to see lion dance in KL

We love watching lion dance, especially the acrobatic ones – who doesn’t! This time of the year my kids also love to spot lion dance troupes traveling to their gigs with colourful flags in the back of their lorries. Luckily there is not a shortage of these magnificent performances in town on every weekend before, during and after Chinese New Year.

If you want to know more of this art form, this article is a good read. Also do follow Liondancefreak on Facebook for daily schedules and lion dance videos. And for what happens backstage, we just love this video from Singtel:

Here are some convenient places to take the family to see lion dance in KL:

Thean Hou temple
Thean Hou is one of the most beautiful settings for CNY in the city. Their Facebook page is updated with details of happenings and has a schedule of events in English. Parking can be an issue during festivities so if the free shuttle is convenient to you, it is probably a good idea to use it.

The malls are some of the most convenient places to watch lion dances in KL, although we are regulars at the Desa Parkcity’s performance. Most shopping malls have a great variety of other CNY activities, including prosperity drums and acrobatics shows. If there is one of those face changing performances on somewhere, you’ll find us there, it’s another family favorite! Do double check the times from the organisers’ social media. For other events during Chinese New year, check this list.
