In the middle of the city, along Jalan Bukit Bintang and opposite the ever busy Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, lies The Starhill, within which you will find, in the basement, a cosy little restaurant known as Shook!. It is the perfect respite from a busy, and sometimes overwhelming city.
Let’s dig in
With the many tasting stations surrounding the restaurant, we started with the Rojak Buah (with a cute DIY station, where you can choose exactly what fruits you want to add, and how much of that thick, delicious black sauce along with peanut garnish if you want). Right next to it was Rojak Pasembur, the more unhealthy Rojak but so darn yummy, with crunchy fried bits covered in a satisfyingly thick peanut sauce.
Next we went to the mains! These are the dishes we loved: Pajeri Nenas Berempah (pineapple cooked with curry sauce) – it was quite tasty, and crunchy; the super delicious, highly recommended, Udang Sambal Petai (stir fried prawn with chilli paste and bitter beans); the tender, roasted lamb, with gravy and a chilli sauce; the light and creamy Udang Rendang – very tasty prawns still firm and fresh; and the steamed chicken rice complete with the decadent oil rice. We also loved the tender sliced roast beef cooked in a coconut gravy and the Rendang Ayam with thick gravy and lots of spices.
Sweet endings at Shook! Ramadan buffet
Besides the usual Kuih-Muih, western cakes & ice creams, these stood out for us: the pandan cheesecake (little creamy bites) which were lightly flavoured; Bubur Pulut Hitam; satisfying traditional Cendol; the oh-so-different but creamy jackfruit ice cream and the cooling Lin Chi Kang.
Personally I do love sugar cane as a drink so I was very happy to find it there, along with soya bean, Teh Tarik (of course!) and cold water.
The buffet is priced at RM125++ per adult and RM60++ per child.
