The moment we parked our car at the basement carpark of Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur, my six-year-old twins were beaming with delight upon seeing the scenes of Upin & Ipin posters and signages welcoming us. They couldn’t wait to meet Upin & Ipin during the unveiling of the animated duo at HYdeout, Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur on 15 April 2022.
Grand Hyatt Hotel Kuala Lumpur which is strategically located in the heart of the city features HYdeout, the hotel’s first family friendly themed dining and fun learning experience. HYdeout has thrived since the time it featured classic themes that resonated well with the young, like ‘Spookyville’ and ‘Dinotopia’. This time around, the hotel unveils its all-new exclusive theme in April 2022, featuring Malaysia’s most beloved award-winning animation series: Upin & Ipin.
The kampung twins
Upin & Ipin is an animated television series of the life and adventures of five-year-old Malaysian twins, Upin and Ipin. The twins who lost their parents in infancy reside with their elder sister Ros and grandmother Uda (whom they call Opah) in a village house in Kampung Durian Runtuh. The series showcases the everyday lives of Upin and Ipin through fun and amusing actions with their friends from the village’s Tadika Mesra (kindergarten). Like any other kids, the twins are very mischievous and often find themselves getting into trouble, most of the time with their teenage sister, Ros.
HYdeout’s Upin & Ipin: Kampung in the City main highlights are family fun within the significance of ‘Kampung in the City’ theme. It nurtures household cultures and traditional entertainment, staged from Upin & Ipin adventures. The Upin & Ipin adventures aim to relive childhood nostalgia amidst these modern times and I think HYdeout has accomplished that very well.
HYdeout celebrates all of the essence of Upin & Ipin, with stimulating entertainment like messy play, traditional games, wau painting, carnival booths, 3D walls, movie screening and more, paired with a scrumptious all-you-can-eat buffet.
They’re here!
My twins were especially excited when Upin & Ipin made an appearance. There were also mini replicas of Upin & Ipin’s Kampung homes and the Kampung’s tuck shop on display. The kids were so excited to see the replicas as seen on their TV show that they had to go in and experience it themselves. With cool games like ‘Tin can knock down’ games to archery and basketball toss, it is the perfect place for kids to occupy themselves while parents peacefully feast on the buffet. I’d say the experience would be best suitable for 4-8 year olds.
The food served was good too, though there were not as many choices of food as I expected. My kids especially loved the pastries and desserts served in the buffet. All in all, it was a good and fun experience.
