Hilton PJ Ramadan buffet

Ramadan is always a great opportunity to sample the best food Malaysia has to offer. They definitely know how to do a Ramadan buffet at Paya Serai restaurant in the Hilton hotel in Petaling Jaya! With a homage to the great artist P. Ramlee, the restaurant displays over 300 traditional Malaysian dishes in their buffet line up, featuring his personal favourite dishes as well as special food inspired by his arts. Impressive, to say the least! We were invited to review all this loveliness.

Paya Serai is conveniently located next to the entrance of the hotel. After a warm welcome at the entrance, my 12-year-old daughter and I are ushered to our table. We were both happy to find out that we were allowed to scoop the dishes on our plates by ourselves. In order to do so, we had to make use of plastic gloves, before entering the buffet area. That was a first, but it was so worth to be able to manage our own food!

Traditional food and western options

If you’re a fan of traditional Malaysian food, this buffet is a must-try. Saying that, there are a lot of Western options as well. While I went straight to the lamb carving station (tasty and tender), my daughter went for some pasta, cooked on the spot. We came back for the beautiful salad bar and we also didn’t miss the seafood section.

I was happy to see that my daughter became a bit more adventurous now, by trying one of the beef curries. She almost licked her plate clean. “Not too spicy mum!” If only I had some space left in my tummy for the stir-fried Penang-style noodles, the Laksa Johor or the salmon soup… We finished off our meal with ice-cream potong from ‘Ayu 20 Sen’.

This DurianMama’s heart jumped of joy when we heard an announcement, that starting 13 April a durian truck will be parked just outside the hotel, to treat you to a sweet goodbye after your meal. Bliss!

Memories from the past

Just outside of the restaurant, a small exposition has been set up, with some memorabilia of the master. Such a nice touch! You can admire P. Ramlee’s old record player here, his typewriter, some clothes and his radio.
During the upcoming Ramadan buffet, the restaurant will be airing some of his award-winning films and music.

We do not have buffet for this year Ramadan. Alternatively, we have set menu Ramadan consist of 15 dishes on the table min for 2 pax dine in (RM99 nett per adult). Kids 5 to 11 years old price is RM50 nett per person.
Entitled for 15% discount for pre-book before dine in:
Price Adult: RM84.15nett per person (After 15% discount)
Price Kids : RM42.50nett per person (After 15% discount)

This is because we are supporting government effort to reduce people gathering in buffet station, as we are aware Covid cases still up and down especially in Selangor area.

    1. Hi, after inquiries with the hotel, indeed they just decided not to run the buffet anymore, due to the current situation. The hotel offers a set menu instead. Take away and delivery options are also still available.
