If your family are feeling creative, but you’re not in the mood to spend hours of your life cleaning up afterwards, then a trip to Motion Studio Asia could be perfect.
Motion Studio Asia offers a range of activities including motion art jamming, splat art and bear brick painting. I teamed up with my 12-year-old to get creative and a little bit messy. Don’t worry, the paints are washable, and you are provided with a very attractive plastic poncho and matching shoe covers, to protect your clothes. It’s probably still not a good idea to wear your favourite outfit!
You will also be provided with a blank canvas or bear brick and a range of paints to choose from. Prices start at MYR 109 for the bear brick and MYR 129 each for the motion and splat art sessions. Four paints are included in the price of the activity, but for an additional fee you can also select from a range of neon, metallic and glitter paints. And the best bit is, that there are so many inventive ways to transfer the paint onto the canvas.
Motion art jamming
The first activity we tried at Motion Studio Asia was motion art jamming and unless you have a table that spins around and some pendulums containing paint, this is not something you can do at home. We had fun swinging tubes filled with a variety of different coloured paints over our spinning canvas for the hour-long session. It’s fine if you don’t have a clue what you are doing, as the team were on hand to help if we needed any advice. It really is an activity to suit all ages and skill levels. And once you’ve finished, you just need to leave your masterpiece to dry and collect it or have it picked up 48 hours later.
Splat art painting
We also tried our hand at splat art painting, which was our favourite, as we got to throw paint bombs at a canvas and literally splat paint all over the wall, that occasionally went where we intended it to go. There is also the option of using paint-filled water pistols, but we were quite happy with the bombs. I must confess it did take a few attempts to get them to explode, but luckily no one was watching us at that point, and I have destroyed the video evidence.
How to get to Motion Studio Asia
Do NOT do what I did and walk around Mid Valley Megamall desperately trying to find the place. The address is 31-2 The Boulevard Mid Valley City, Lingkaran Syed Putra, Kuala Lumpur. You will find the doorway to this second-floor studio around the corner from the A&W, near the walkway between Mid Valley MegaMall and The Gardens Mall. You’re in the right area if you can see Burger King and Starbucks. Try not to get distracted by either of those two options – you may end up missing your pre booked time slot. I would say Motion Studio Asia is perfect for parties, family time or even a team bonding activity. And ideal for those that enjoy art, but don’t have the patience or desire needed to complete a paint by numbers activity.
