Celebrating love with friends and family, isn’t that what Christmas is about? What better way to do that than enjoying a great buffet together?! We were happy to get invited by DoubleTree by Hilton KL, to preview their sumptuous Christmas buffet at restaurant Makan Kitchen.
A big wow when we entered the place: the name ‘gingerbread house’ didn’t do justice to the stunning structure, placed right at the entrance. What we gawked at, looked more like a giant cookie castle than anything else. Kids will love this!
My secret weapon
Buffets are great; you can eat all you want! However, the downside is that you know beforehand that you won’t be able to try everything. I brought a secret weapon though: my plus one, aka my better half. I’d ordered him not to eat anything before we went to the hotel. I also gave him strict instructions not to try anything I would put on my plate and to report back how it all was after every bite. Alas, he didn’t obey to either of those rules, and just kept himself busy with devouring what was on offer. And that was a lot.
A great mix of Western, Indian, and Chinese food
There was a nice set up of Western food in the main area and a good range of Indian and Chinese food in the side rooms. We were both equally impressed by the Indian lamb dish, and my plus one thought the salt crusted salmon was the star of the evening. I believe the fish was so moist – even though it was baked in the oven – because of the number of vegetables in its belly. It was simply delicious, with a great white sauce to compliment it.
The lamb was nice, but I thought the mint sauce a bit too overbearing and too sour. No Christmas without turkey and it was also nice and tender, with a sweet cranberry sauce.
We also loved the live BBQ seafood station, as well as the satay. You can’t go wrong easily with satay, and it’s nice to have those little bites which came with great peanut sauce. A must-eat for each buffet! The drinks on offer were a bit too sweet for my liking.
A sweet time with desserts
Desserts looked incredibly cute, and it is obvious that the chefs spent a lot of time to create the most amazing looking creations. My hands down favourite was the Christmas bread pudding with white sauce. Would we come back here? Definitely yes!
