Buka Puasa – the breaking of fast during the month of Ramadan is not too far away, commencing 11 March through to 9 April 2024. This has become a significant occasion for me having married into a Muslim family almost eight years ago. The once a year dishes are prepped, sometimes for days beforehand and glorious food is the result.
While the best restaurant is at home, especially in a family of mad food connoisseurs, various restaurants offer up buffets, banquets and set dinners throughout Ramadan as well.
With the Malay food expert (wife Shakirah) in tow, we had the pleasure of visiting Sisho Dining at MiCasa All Suites Hotel for an early preview of their “Citarasa Khazanah Dinner” menu providing predominantly Malaysian tasty treats with emphasis on Malay traditional cuisine.
Traditional Malay cuisine at MiCasa All Suites Hotel
It is worth noting that traditional Malay cuisine is not the easiest to find when dining out in Kuala Lumpur. This menu provides the opportunity to head into a gourmet journey of local flavoursome treats all under one roof at one time.
Over sixty dishes can be sampled with many desserts and fruits to complete the taste palette.
Starters included a delightful winged bean salad, traditional kerabu, fresh rojak buah with sauce and many more. Graduate to satay with the best peanut sauce I have sampled in years, cucur udang (tempura style) and otak-otak (small fish wrapped in banana leaf and grilled).
Mains included red snapper curry, speciality ox-tail soup (recipe from Sabah), spit roast lamb, lautan seafood (mixed seafood in a coconut based soup), deep fried flower crab, prawn fritters and traditional curry noodles.
Between us we managed to sample about half the menu with happy satisfied food palate at the end. It really is a varied dining experience that explores every geographical corner of Malaysia and well worth the visit.

We were invited by MiCasa All Suites Hotel. As always, our opinions are honest and our own.
