EQ Kuala Lumpur recently hosted a special aperitivo and wine tasting at its Bottega Lounge. With the food of an Italian chef, accompanied by the sparkling wines of Bottega, my plus one and I couldn’t be happier!
Bottega Lounge at the EQ hotel is one of its kind in Malaysia. Mr Azrul Apandi, the F&B manager, shared with me that Bottega Lounges normally are found only at airports around the world. I have to say, the lounge was very stylish, yet cozy with nice comfortable sofas and a few private corners.
In this playful and colourful setting, we enjoyed the presence of Chef Mauro Civiero from Italy. He presented a tasting menu from the Bottega book of ‘The 100 Prosecco Recipes’. He’d selected the menu items specifically for their affinity with the Bottega wines elected for the tasting.
Some fine prosecco recipes
Not only showed chef Mauro us how to prepare the different dishes, but he also displayed great knowledge when he shared about the regions the dishes come from, and the health benefits of the different ingredients.
Starting with an Amberjack Tartare, accompanied by a Bottega Gold Prosecco, our taste buds were pampered, and we couldn’t wait for the next bite! Which was buffalo mozzarella with wild oregano and tomato jelly, accompanied by Bottega Pinot Grigio. It was definitely my favourite bite that afternoon.
The Venetian style crabmeat salad was tasty, but a tad too dry for my liking. The great pairing with Bottega Rose Gold Pinto Nero made up for it though. A winning combination! Next up was rosé veal with a mascarpone tuna mousse, together with Bottega Rosso, and it was splendid.
To finish, we sampled a piece of sbrisolona, cake made with semolina, and we happily took some Bottego Limoncello, to end our afternoon with. A great finish of a luxurious experience!
Have a look here for the menu at the Bottega Lounge. Open daily from 11am – 11pm. They serve an afternoon tea as well. Worth checking out!
Views from the 51st floor
We gladly took up an invite to take the lift to the 51st floor, where restaurant Sabayon and Blue are located. Mr Zarith, the maître d’ of the f&b outlets on this floor, was so kind to show us around.
The venue is impressive, with its stylish interior, high ceilings and amazing views over KL. Peeking at the menu made me put this place instantly on my list of places-to-visit-for-makan. Next-door bar Blue looked very inviting, both indoors as well as outdoors. Again, with stunning views. For bookings you can call the restaurant at 03-2789 7800. Children 12 years and up are welcome in both venues.

We were invited by EQ. As always, our opinion is honest and our own.
