5 Al fresco dining venues in KL for when you just need to be outdoors

Tamarind Springs

With the ongoing heatwave in KL, we tend to look for a more comfortable climate indoors to enjoy our meals. If you are into nice and cosy terraces though, have a look at some great al fresco dining venues in KL that are simply too good to miss. Simply get into your coolest outdoors dress, bring a fan if you like and join us for al fresco dining in the best places that KL has got to offer.

Via Pre

Lasagna from Via Pre

On the cosy porch of Italian restaurant Via Pre, you can easily imagine yourself in the bustle of the streets in Rome, Italy. The restaurant offers authentic Italian food at affordable prices. With its nice outdoors setting, great food and its enjoyable service, dining at Via Pre is a blissful experience. The whole place is actually outdoors, but you’re under cover, which is good in case of rain. We recommend the Quattro Stagioni pizza, the wild mushroom risotto, and the lasagna. If the owner is around, he often treats you to a glass of limoncello.

Parking is quite easy at the space next-door or on the side of the road.

La Chica

A new kid on the block since 2023, this Mexican restaurant is serving contemporary pork-free Mexican food and definitely adds to the lively atmosphere in the row of restaurants at Jalan Bangkung in Bangsar. Their tapas menu is extensive, their frozen margaritas are a must-drink, and the atmosphere is sparkling. With plenty of space, you can either sit at the bar, on large tables indoors, or outside on their terrace.

Chica Bonita

The second Chica Bonita outlet (first one is in Publika, Solaris) just opened last year and is doing well. No wonder, because their dishes are a hit with the whole family! Our favourites are the spicy prawn tacos and the frozen margaritas, a winning team on the menu. Bookings are required during weekends, but even on weekdays you can expect quite a crowd. You’ll love the colourful murals in this place.

Tamarind Springs

A golden oldie, Tamarind Springs is a bit out of the way, unless you live in Ampang of course. Needless to say, we’re happy to drive the few extra miles, to enjoy the great outdoor setting and to sample as much as possible from the menu, which is a mix of great food from all around Southeast Asia.

A great place overlooking the golf course, the menu has been steady and of high quality for many years now.

Havana Bar & Grill

Another well-known place is Havana, a buzzing place that has been going strong for a long time and still serves its patrons with flair, spirit(s) and enthusiasm. Frozen margaritas anyone? Yes please! We love their grilled steaks and Texas-style ribs. Still feel energised after your meal? Head upstairs for more fun with more music, drinks, and DJs on weekends.
