We are great fans of festive adverts – the best ones are like mini-documentaries. Chinese New Year ads are doing rounds in social media and TV and as always, the clips compete in soppiness and show traditions through a nostalgic filter. These are our favourite CNY adverts in 2018:
1. Wonder with Wonder by Traveloka
Clever little clip on a resourceful mother that makes the most of what she has to offer for her son.
2. The Coming Together by TNB
Lion dance seems to be a hot topic this year. We love anything lion dance and this bunch of creative siblings is just great:
3. Malaysia Airlines
Malaysia Airlines always makes it to the list of best CNY adverts – they have the benefit of their business being at the heart of the “return home for holidays” narrative! This year they bring us a nice round-up of CNY traditions.
4. Lazada and the stressed holiday mum
I can relate to this stressed out mum trying single-handedly to get everything ready for the big day: “Later I throw away your phone!”. Love it.
5. Satu Malaysia
What would a line-up be without a “One Malaysia” candidate. This one is so warm and cheerful that you have to smile. And it has lion dance – automatic points from this jury.
