Weekend Fiesta Buffet: Malaysian dishes that will wow you

Courtyard by Marriott KL South

Last week I had the pleasure of visiting the Courtyard by Marriott Kuala Lumpur South. This sleek modern hotel which opened only last June, currently has a very attractive Weekend Fiesta Buffet at Substance on Level 3. Held every Saturday and Sunday from 12pm to 3pm for lunch, and Thursday to Sunday from 6:30pm to 11pm for dinner, this buffet is a vibrant celebration of flavours. With eight rotating menus and over 100 dishes to choose from daily, it’s a food lover’s paradise packed with variety.

Let’s dig in at the Weekend Fiesta Buffet

I opted for the Saturday evening Weekend Fiesta Buffet and on arriving headed straight for the fresh seafood spread – think fresh sashimi, plump oysters, crab, and prawns!

Next up were the salads, with the Salmon Salad stealing the show. Then came the Western roasts: juicy chicken, tender leg of lamb, and colourful roasted veggies.

However it was the variety of local Malaysian dishes that followed, that really captured the essence of the region’s culinary heritage and showcased the chef’s area of expertise. My favourites? The Daging Masak Hitam, a rich beef stew with dark soy sauce and warm spices, and the Ikan Masak Lemak, a creamy, turmeric-spiced dish with coconut milk and chillies. I couldn’t resist trying the Patin Masak Tempoyak either – a bold mix of freshwater catfish and tangy, fermented durian paste blended with chilli, turmeric, ginger, and garlic.

Desserts were a bit limited at the Weekend Fiesta Buffet to be honest but hit the spot, wrapping things up nicely.

The restaurant itself has a cool, open vibe that’s both comfy and classy, perfect for chilling with friends or family. The service was good, especially from Suganthan, who was super attentive and made sure that we sampled practically every dish.

After eating, we popped to the At 137 Bar on the Mezzanine Floor, a cosy hidden little spot.

We tried two cocktails: the Coco Mojito, a fun, coconutty twist on the classic, and Twice as Nice, a zesty blend of ginger-infused rum, lemongrass, calamansi, and orange curaçao. Both were delicious, and the bar’s laid-back feel was just right for kicking back.

Overall, Courtyard by Marriott Kuala Lumpur South combines a generous buffet, good service, and exciting promotions, making it a top choice for a memorable weekend dining escape.

The Weekend Fiesta Buffet is priced is at RM138 nett per adult and RM69 nett per child for lunch, and RM158 nett per adult and RM79 nett per child for dinner.
