Meat lovers delight! Lots of meat choices here, all with a food bazaar feel, from the sugar cane juice to the satay, there is a real reminiscent feel but in a 5 star setting. Just a 5 minute walk from KLCC lies Element Kuala Lumpur and on the 40th floor, lies the restaurant TRACE. With the Mai Bazar Element! Ramadan buffet on offer at a great price of RM148 per person (terms apply), we highly recommend it not just for the homey, traditional tastes with a unique twist, but also for the great views.
Why opt for TRACE
The 8 hours braised beef brisket (with Kerutuk spices) was oh so tender with a very thick tasty sauce to accompany it. The lamb shank though slightly dry (expected for this piece of meat sitting patiently by the side) was well paired with several unique sauces ranging from minty to fruity, which was quite frankly a delight. The tender and juicy slow cooked Norwegian Salmon with Percik flavourings was a treat and the Sarawak nasi goreng dabai was a welcome specialty, containing crisp, salty fish with their slightly sweet sambal. So satisfying.
Of course the standard beef & chicken satay had to be tried – situated in a big bowl of peanut sauce, it was comfortingly delicious. The butter prawns are not to be missed, and the large spread of various kerabu (salads) too – we tried the kerabu mangga which was a super crunchy, sweet sour spicy blend salad (always a favourite) and the thinly sliced prawns kerabu – refreshing and so yum.

They also had a live sweet and sour station, where you could choose your choice of protein – fish, beef or oxtail and then they paired it with assam pedas. Assam lovers rejoice! Sour, and tangy, we do love a good assam pedas (and actually it wasn’t so pedas).

The creamy bubur pedas (also not so spicy) was such a warming comfort food for me. Loved it. Also the Sarawak ayam rendang which had an interesting textured almost peanut like sauce. The TRACE Sarawakian sambal will be on sale so get a jar to take home with you!
Desserts were quite varied and delicious, from local fruits to western offerings – the creamy nutty chocolate bread and butter pudding was so good I almost had seconds. They also had cendol kuih which is hard to find, and a cream pudding with crunchy oats biscuit base which got 9/10 from my husband. Also recommended is the fruity panna cotta in small shot glasses as well as the local bubur on offer (a local warmed, sweet porridge type dessert).
Drinks on offer ranged from hot drinks to cold – sugar cane, calamansi, rose selasih.
Overall it was a lovely twist on local variety offered with specialities from Sarawak and what a view! Especially as the night brings out the lights. A destination not to be missed.
