For many of us, CzipLee is a familiar name, and synonymous with your one-stop-shop for stationery, books and art supplies. If you’re looking for aesthetically pleasant stationery or something exquisite to gift someone, or if you need to buy specific art tools or supplies as well, CzipLee would be the place to go.
Looking for beautifully printed or leather-bound notebooks, limited edition pens, specific paper at various sizes of thickness, a certain shade of paint or even customized printing services? It’s all there, at CzipLee.
An eventful past
The family-owned company has come far since its opening in 1968 as a sundry store in Kajang, offering more specialty services over the years while having to deal with huge challenges such as floods, a fire and the pandemic. The Bangsar outlet specifically, which first opened in 2006, has seen quite some changes: it was rebranded in 2012, faced a tremendous fire in 2016 with almost 80% of its stock damaged and was then relaunched again in 2019.
Concept and pop-up stores
In the past few years, the CzipLee family decided on a new course, this time focusing on launching more concept and pop-up stores, rather than offering the entire product catalogue in one store. Thus, the familiar Bangsar outlet at Jalan Telawi 3 is now called CzipPlus: a concept store with fine writing materials and art supplies. The CzipPetit or ‘mini’-CzipLee in Bangsar Village 2 offers general stationery, books and craft supplies. It’s located next to the LEGO store.
Inside CzipPlus
Invited to have a look at the new CzipPlus, stepping into the new shop is a pleasant experience. Its new design and lay-out look a lot like a European-style specialty store. There are various designs of notebooks and post cards for sale, as well as finely crafted stamp collections.
A specialised section such as the ‘Ink Bar’ allows you to select from a wide variety of ink colours, while on the left high-end pens are on display in glass cabinets. Writing stationery in all kind of colours, patterns and shapes are trying to catch your attention. You probably don’t need any of these fancy-looking items, but I bet you still would like them anyways!
A floor dedicated to workshops
On the first floor all kinds of art supplies and tools are neatly organised, while you can also find the printing services under CzipPrinting. A smaller area on the second floor houses the workshops space: another area the CzipLee family is looking to increase. They are working together with partners from the community and artists, offering exciting events.
Other plans for the near future include opening up a full-fledged concept store with an extensive selection of brands and products, as well as offering a new concept bookstore. Keep an eye on their Facebook page here. Being a booklover and as someone who can never have enough notebooks or pens, I look forward to visit the new stores and possibly join some of the workshops!
CzipPlus by CzipLee is located at 3 Jalan Telawi 3, Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur. You can reach them at 012 219 5767. They are open from Mondays till Saturdays from 10am till 6pm.
