The Lemon Garden at Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur never fails to delight, and after sampling the Sajian Istimewa dinner buffet, it’s been further reinforced onto our taste buds. A mixture of international favourites and Hari Raya specialties, hailing from various parts in Malaysia, we found the mouth watering flavours quite an unusual treat.
The main area was lined with their usual international buffet complete with the Soup Station, the Seafood Station, the Dim Sum Station, the Double Boiled Chinese Soups Station, the Pasta/Pizza/Cheese/Bread Station and even the ‘Build-your-own-yeesang-with-fresh-pomelo’ Station! There is definitely something for everyone at Lemon Garden. We especially love the dessert room.

Let’s dig in
Starting with the International flavours, we enjoyed the creamy, super refreshing Pumpkin Soup, the deliciously succulent Beef Oxtail Osso Bucco in red sauce (to die for!), deceivingly delicious Fish Pie (so creamy and more-ish), the Baked Salmon in Creamy White Sauce and the Double Boiled Chicken Soup with Ginseng (very heart warming, especially soothing for any sore throats!).

The International Desserts room was an overload of cuteness, with bite sized sweet treats we definitely over indulged. We loved the crunchy pistachio filled Bakhlava, the soft whip Meringue Lemon Tart, the always loved Sago and this one came with mango(!), the deliciously yum Durian Cream Puff (warning, its not the usual cream filling!), the cute Jelly Bites with real fruit, the creamy Tiramisu which was nicely balanced with the coffee flavour, the sweet raspberry purée Pavlova and the super sweet Crème Brûlée. Great for sugar lovers, but if you’re wanting less sugar, I would stick to the local desserts.
Ramadan specials
Now our run down of the Sajian Istimewa Ramadan specials area, which had less dishes when you look at the buffet overall, but what they had was top notch. The attention to detail with backdrops explaining the various dishes and where they were from, and the warming tastes of all the sauces was wonderful.
We were too late for the prawns (must have been a crowd pleaser!) but the leftover Udang Masak Tempoyak Sarawak sauce looked yum. Of the Sajian Istimewa dishes we tried, we loved the cat fish Keli Salai Masak Lemak with coconut, filled with various spice flavour, the saucy Pekasam Daging Beef was super tender and a must try, the plainer un-sauced Beef Churrasco was also so flavourful and tender, the Kambing Panggang Golek Berempah with fragrant Nasi Minyak that had raisins, which was so juicy and not dry as it can sometimes be.

To finish off our Sajian Istimewa buffet experience, we had a refreshingly cold grass jelly drink (to clean our palate first), the clean crispy appam, the delicious one-bite-green goodness Kuih Manis with gula Melaka and its spicy sister, Kuih Cara Berlauk. There was also a vast array of local and western fruits on display for those wanting a lighter end to the evening, plus a trio of juice towers.

So grab your colleagues or your family and friends and head over to Sajian Istimewa buffet at Shangri-La KL this holy month. Make sure you skip breakfast and go for a long walk before hand!
