I try to make an effort to discover new places but am not willing to drive across town for a simple lunch. So when driving back from our Skytrex adventure in Shah Alam, I mapped any cool places along the way – and found WhupWhup. It is a restaurant converted out of an old yarn factory, located in an industrial neighbourhood in Subang Jaya – definitely not on my regular path.
While there is no play area or kids’ menu, we loved the open space that has enough breathing space for families with your regular, slightly noisy kids. The old machines kept the kids intrigued – and the food was ok too.
The kids often go for a breakfast, and gave full points to the lovely country bread. They were out of the dill mayo that normally comes with the salmon on bread – which I’m sure would have complemented the salmon better than the tomato reduction that replaced it. However, coffee was excellent. We grabbed tubs of Kapiti ice-cream but the fact that you had to eat it with a plastic spoon from somehow made it taste less nice!?
WhupWhup: our verdict
Prices are a bit on the high side and being on the wrong side of the city, it won’t become our regular lunch place but I have to give ten points for atmosphere and general coolness!
