Pizza Duo, The Campus: a celebration of Italian flair

Pizza Duo, The Campus

Nestled in the new lifestyle hub of The Campus in Ampang, Pizza Duo‘s flagship outlet is a love letter to Italian cuisine, delivered with creativity and charm. The venue pops with colours and a cosy, cheerful interior that makes you want to linger. At its heart are two gleaming Stefano Ferrara ovens, sparkling like disco balls and promising pizza perfection. This is no ordinary pizzeria – it’s a modern trattoria bursting with fun, bold flavours, and Italian-inspired flair.

The history of Pizza Duo

The story of Pizza Duo is as delightful as its dishes, driven by the infectious passion of founders Aina Ghani and Mark Lee. Their journey began during the MCO, experimenting with pizza  at home, only to discover the craft was trickier than expected.

To master it, they spent time in Naples and London, immersing themselves in the art of pizza making. Soon after they got the opportunity to run the pizza section at Tap Room, where they sharpened their skills further.

After their Bamboo Hills venue became a hit, Aina and Mark seized the chance to open their flagship at The Campus, unveiling an expanded menu featuring other Italian specialities as well.

What sets Pizza Duo apart is its commitment to the finest, freshest ingredients sourced straight from Italy that elevate every dish with unmatched taste and quality. The owners also like to experience with food and the new menu weaves Italian classics with inventive twists from crab fettuccine arrabbiata to eggs maritozzo, burnt lasagna to chicken cotoletta, and melon soda cremosa to tableside tiramisu.

Let’s eat

My tasting began with a burrata and pear salad – fresh and tangy. The spicy eggplant caponata followed, delivering a playful kick that woke up the palate. While the crab arrabbiata wasn’t my favourite (crab in pasta isn’t my thing), the spiced duck sausage rigatoni was delicious.

Then came the pizzas, the true stars of the show. Crafted with dough fermented for three days for maximum flavour and texture, they’re a testament to Aina and Mark’s dedication. The Shroomami, a truffle-laden masterpiece, was hands-down the best truffle pizza l’ve ever tasted, made even better by Mark’s generous tableside truffle-slicing. The classic Margherita simple yet flawless, let the quality of  the Italian ingredients shine. For mains, the smoked chicken with potato purée was comforting, while the wagyu sirloin with orzo was tender, juicy, and unforgettable.

Dessert was another triumph, particularly the Tuscan mascarpone-frosted carrot cake, which Aina revealed gets its incredible moisture from crushed pineapple. A chocolate mousse, panna cotta, and delightful cookies rounded out the offerings, though I was too full to indulge further.

Pizza Duo’s flagship at The Campus is more than a restaurant – it’s a playful celebration of Italian food, crafted with love, premium ingredients and served with warmth. Aina and Mark have created a gem that’s sure to become a beloved fixture in Ampang’s dining scene.
