Studies have shown that having animals as pets can provide health benefits, such as reducing blood pressure, stress relief and social support. And if there is a shelter housing unwanted pets and stray animals like PAWS, that would certainly be a place that deserves a special mention. Let’s take a look!
PAWS stands for Paws Animal Welfare Society and has been in operation in Malaysia since 1987. As a non- profit animal shelter, it was set up to receive unwanted dogs and cats. They aim for all animals that come to PAWS, to be vaccinated, dewormed, neutered or spayed, and put up for adoption.
An eco-friendly haven
PAWS recently relocated to a new place in Ara Damansara, Petaling Jaya, Selangor. Apart from the allocated area for the animals, there is an empty spot at the compound, where they intend to build Malaysia’s 1st multi storey eco-friendly animal shelter. The expected construction is set to begin towards the end of 2021.

With countless animals in the shelter, which mainly consist of cats and dogs, the responsibility of looking after them is challenging. Yet, the animals look healthy and well taken care of. The only thing that they need is a loving home… They live in divided sections in a clean and hygienic environment. Kudos to the carers at the centre!
#Adopt Don’t Shop
The running costs of the shelter are supported and funded entirely by the generous donations of the public. Hence, for the love and care for the animals, we should by all means spread the good word out and I’m sure you’d agree!
If you feel like adopting a pet, donating, come in as a volunteer, or even bring your kids to visit the shelter, it would truly make a difference! You can find contact details for PAWS here on their website. You can also call 011 2193 5651 or email them here.
