New brunch favourites: Rimba & Rusa and Huckleberry Food & Fare

Brunch! Where to go? The pictures of Rimba & Rusa on my Instagram feed have tickled my curiosity for weeks now, and finally we made it over to the new, barely open Sunway Nexis in Kota Damansara. Only minutes away from the uninspiring mall food of The Curve and with ample (and for now free) parking, it is super easy to hop over there for a weekend brunch with the kids.

The decor is delightful and utterly trendy – hence the Instagram tsunami of Rimba & Rusa interiors. The food lives up to the hype, too. Extra points for salads with substance!

Perfect for brunch!

More points for a kids’ menu and incorporating tasty local dishes, like the pan-seared trout with tamarind sauce below. We didn’t have space for the cakes, but they sure looked delicious.

And – ta-daa – tucked away upstairs you’ll find the biggest draw for parents with toddlers: the secret to being able to finish your coffee and even a slice of cake.

Brunch at Huckleberry Food & Fare

The other buzzing opening of the last weeks is Huckleberry Food & Fare in Plaza Damansara. The bakery selection here is admirable with loaves, pastries, cakes and baguettes – to be eaten in or bought to take away.

Other than baked goods, there is a full menu with enough surprises, like Vietnamese banh mi or an innovative vegetarian burger. We were in a breakfast mode: our eggs were yummy and the kids wolfed down their sandwich pictured below claiming it was “the best ever”. There is no kids’ menu but we easily found dishes to please our young ones.

Media buzz comes with herds of Instagram-hungry patrons and it was heaving on a Sunday morning. The system of ordering at the counter made brunching a rather slow process, but it is a great place for people watching with indoor and outdoor seating.
