The smell of popcorn fills the air! It is movie night in our home and our movie pick this time around is “My Little Pony: A New Generation.”
Directed by Robert Cullen and Jose L. Ucha, the movie centers around overcoming challenges with trust, friendship, kindness, and determination. These themes are aligned with My Little Pony’s brand, that aims to inspire kids to explore, express and celebrate what makes them unique in the world.
It was mesmerising to watch the movie from start to finish. Even my little boy, who always thought of My Little Pony as a girly movie, had his eyes glued to the show.
Meet heroines Sunny Starscout and Izzy
Set many years after the events of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, the new movie takes us to a divided Equestria, where the earth ponies, pegasi, and unicorns distrust each other and keep to themselves. The film follows one young pony, Sunny Starscout, who defies the status quo and longs to see Equestria reunited.
Her chance comes when she meets an actual unicorn, Izzy, and the fast friends embark on a quest to reunite all pony kinds and restore magic to the land.
Spoiler alert…
The pair travel to faraway lands, where they encounter the likes of charismatic and brave pegasi Pipp and Zipp and the ever-responsible fellow Earth Pony Hitch. Their mission is full of misadventures, but these new best friends each possess their own unique and special gifts that may be just what this pony verse needs to restore magic and prove that even little ponies can make a big difference.
With hilarious jokes, gorgeous animation and a bopping soundtrack, this film was a great introduction to the new generation of ponies. Songs were used to good effect throughout the movie. “Glowing up, kind of love, we say high, you say what? Ooo-ooh-ooh,” my six-year-old twins were seen singing and humming to the song from the movie, because it was just that catchy.
And what did the kids learn?
Once the kids were settled down from the after movie excitement, as always we reviewed the lessons we learnt from watching the movie. “Every pony (or person) is unique in their own way and you can make a difference no matter how little you are,” said my six-year-old Mieraa “and we must always trust and be kind to our friends,” added her twin brother Mahesh. Mission accomplished! Kids learnt a good lesson from watching the movie and I am a happy mom for the good takeaways they gained. We had fun watching this movie!
