Over the weekend, we took the kids to try the ‘Let’s Ngopi, Darling!‘ afternoon tea at W Kuala Lumpur, and it ended up being such a fun little family outing. Served at The Living Room, the experience has that colourful, slightly glam W vibe — purple lights, glossy edges, and modern curvy furniture — yet still feels relaxed and cosy enough for families.
It’s not your typical prim-and-proper afternoon tea; instead, it has a distinctly Malaysian soul that we loved, and our three girls felt right at home the moment they settled in.

Once seated, you’re given the full ‘Let’s Ngopi, Darling!‘ menu, which includes savouries, sweets, a made-to-order section, and their signature “must haves.” The best part? Anything under Made To Order and Must Have is freshly prepared in the kitchen, and you can order as many rounds as you want.
We kicked things off with our drinks order first — everyone gets two picks from the Lokal Kopi menu. We ended up loving the Chryso Mist (a mix of chrysanthemum tea, melon, plum and lemon – served cold) because it was super refreshing and paired really well with all the savoury bites, while the kids naturally went straight for the Coco Cacao, W’s version of hot chocolate.

Savoury bites
Once drinks were sorted, the savoury plates started arriving. We started off with a plate of three hot items: the Cucur Cendawan, Salt and Pepper Chicken Popcorn, and the Chicken Loh Bak Slider. These were the first to hit the table before the tiered stand arrived.
Out of the three, the chicken popcorn was hands-down the favourite for both my husband and I — super crunchy and really addictive, though the kids said it was a bit spicy. The Cucur Cendawan unfortunately was a little cold and not as crispy as we hoped it would be.
Soon after, the afternoon tea stand of ‘Let’s Ngopi, Darling!‘ arrived, loaded with the rest of the savoury bites – Kerabu Prawn & Mango Wonton Crisp, Egg & Truffle Sandwich, Smoked Duck Charcoal Pie Tee, Mushroom Rendang Pastie, Curried Chicken Pie, Sesame Prawn Toast and even a plant based Char Siew Mini Bao.
The standouts for me were the pie tee and the wonton crisp — the smoked duck pie tee had a nice little kick from the chilli, and the wonton crisp was bright and refreshing with the tangy mango and prawn.
Made To Order and Must Have – unlimited and fresh
Once we were done with the savoury stand, we dove straight into the Made To Order and Must Have items on the ‘Let’s Ngopi, Darling!‘, all cooked fresh and unlimited. We tried everything — Satay, Assam Laksa, Ayam Percik, and Char Koay Teow — and were impressed by how flavourful, and authentically Malaysian each dish was, with the satay and char koay teow so good we ordered multiple rounds.
The must-have items were equally fun: the ‘Big Mac’ Popiah with its beef and Big Mac sauce twist, juicy red curry wanton dumplings, and the indulgent Horlicks ice cream bao, slightly oily but delicious with its creamy Horlicks ice cream filling.

Let’s Ngopi, Darling! – sweet trolley experience
Once you’re ready for desserts, the pastry chef personally wheels over the sweet trolley — definitely the showstopper of the afternoon. You get to pick anything you like (and however many times you want!) from the gorgeous cakes to the dainty chocolate bon bons and macarons. I loved the Cempedak Cheesecake as it was creamy and filled with fresh cempedak flavours while the kids went crazy over the macarons.
And because one dessert station clearly isn’t enough, there’s also a soft serve ice cream machine — the flavours that day were yoghurt and passion fruit. We all ended up going back for multiple swirls, though we secretly wished they had some toppings like fruits or sprinkles. And of course, what’s afternoon tea without scones? We had the Cinnamon Apple Scones and Loka Cocoa Scones, both served with clotted cream and pumpkin kaya.

Final thoughts
Overall, ‘Let’s Ngopi, Darling!‘ is a fun, vibrant take on afternoon tea with a local twist. Plenty of variety, lots of fresh items, and a good balance of savoury and sweet — plus the kids enjoyed themselves, which is always a win. We rolled out of W hotel absolutely stuffed, and we didn’t even have to eat dinner!
‘Let’s Ngopi, Darling‘ afternoon tea is served daily from 2pm-5pm at W Living Room. It costs RM88 nett per person (weekdays) and RM128 nett per person (weekends and public holidays). For more information, please click here.
