The SNAPSHOTS series are back! With short and sweet stories about great spots that we really want to share with you. In the spotlight this time: Kuantan’s best beach bar. Simply head east toward Kuantan, where life is slow paced, beaches are plenty and the sun always shines.
There are places where you just don’t want to leave, once you’re there. Beautiful Bali, KL’s food heaven Jalan Alor and the stall of my favourite durian seller Pak Unto are on my list. But of course, these are all personal preferences. There is this one place though on the east coast of peninsular Malaysia that I’d like to share with a broader audience: Puteh Beach Bar.
What’s Puteh Beach Bar?
Picture this: lounging while the kids play in the sand, tasting some great food accompanied with the right kind of liquid and enjoying the pleasantly distant beats of chill beach music. That’s what Puteh Beach Bar is about.
Spoiled for choice, my daughter and I checked out the available seating arrangements. Should we take the beanbags in the front row with ocean view, the lounges in the mini cabanas or the high tables closer to the bar? We choose the latter, since we were planning on getting some lunch.
Food and beverages
I didn’t dare to try the cocktails for lunch, with the drive back to KL in mind. That would have been one step too far… The glass of cold pino grigio wine I ordered though was very nice. There are plenty of milkshake options for kids available. On the menu: Asian favourites and Western options and they all looked great. I chose the Greek salad, which I thought was a bit overpriced for RM18 and a bit too oily for my liking. Other than that, we shared a simple pizza which was very tasty and had a crispy crust.
The waiters at Puteh Beach Bar are smiling, attentive and happy to make suggestions from the menu.
The bar advertises for a Private Seafood BBQ (DIY) campfire for RM70++, which looks like a fun thing to do with older kids. Ladies, if you’ve got the chance to be here on a Wednesday night, you’re lucky, since cocktails will be free. Your first two, that is.
The beach
My daughter loved the two swings which are just in front of the bar, right on the beach. She didn’t swim, since the waves were a bit rough, but had a great time just running around in the surf. The sea is quite far located from Puteh Beach Bar, so if your kids are not confident yet in the water, please keep a close eye on them. There are no life guards around on this part of the beach, so don’t let your little ones get out of your sight.
Where is Puteh Beach Bar?
Puteh Beach Bar is located behind the Aduna Hotel and next to Swiss Garden hotel, on Pahang’s Pantai Balok beach, Kuantan. Parking is easy, you can leave your car just in front of the Aduna Hotel. The bar is open between 11am and 7pm daily. Check here for the exact location and more information in general.
Puteh Beach Bar is disinfected and sanitised twice a day, with current SOPs and social distancing measures in place. As seating is limited, please call ahead to make a table reservation at 017 7741097.

Hi,
May I know if you brought your dogs along to the put beach bar? If not, what was the arrangement for them?
Hi, dogs are not allowed unfortunately at Puteh Beach bar. Best to check with the management through Messenger what alternative arrangements they have for your furkids.
