The Resort Café in Sunway Resort is a perfect place to tantilise your Chinese New Year taste buds. My namesake friend Pipa and I went to try the buffet. Have a look here at our review!
As one drives down the boulevard toward the hotel, there are lots of welcoming lantern. The actual entrance to the restaurant is very festive, with seasonal Chinese music playing in the background. All very atmospheric.
A few uncommon dishes
The Resort Café is a large restaurant (rather not a café) with lots to choose from the buffet, like the traditional roasted beef, buttered vegetables, crab meat soup and desserts.
What made this buffet so interesting, was the uncommonly found dishes like the Truffle Black Duck (super juicy and a popular dish from last year), Black Garlic Mash Potatoes (bursting with flavour and great to accompany the beef, unless you don’t like garlic), the halal BakHwa (quite a good flavour albeit a bit sweet), Grilled Sweet Potato with Rosemary (just the right firmness) and the eggplant had a perfect consistency – not mushy.
The Ginger Fish Head with mushrooms was nicely braised and the salmon in pastry was also flavourful. Black fungus with cucumber was the perfect mélange of spicy, crunchy and zingy. They also had hot pot, but we were too full to try it by that time – they had a huge selection to choose from though and it looked very yums.
The most expensive yee sang was brought out to welcome us, complete with gold leaf, Hokkaido scallop and salmon caviar (RM488 for a full portion). It was bursting with lots of fruit and crunchiness. I loved it and had three helpings! They also have a lobster and salmon yee sang priced at RM238, but we didn’t get to try that one.
Treats at the desserts table
The desserts were equally tasty with the Red Velvet with lemon and the Green Tea mousse being my favourites. I also liked the snow fungus dessert soup, which was very light and great to end a big meal on. There were lots of fresh berries (raspberries, strawberries, blueberries), which was a real treat.
The Auspicious Buffet runs from 17 January – 14 February 2022. Lunch is priced at RM138 nett per adult and RM69 nett per child. Dinner is RM198 nett for adults and RM99 nett for children.
The Lunar Indulgence Buffet runs on 31 January, 7 February and 15 February – buffet highlights on those dates include yabbies on ice, braised oysters, salted egg mantis prawns, steamed tiger grouper fillet with crisp ginger and Chinese yam with truffle paste on a vegetable medley.
Buffet diners get to enjoy 50% off on the price of full portions Yee Sang! For dining reservations, WhatsApp 019 381 5568. More info here.

A tip for parking
The area is quite busy with some shop lots opposite and a multitude of cars vying for parking spaces. Simply park underground just before the resort on the right hand side for RM4 per entry, or a little further up on your left for outdoor parking.
We were invited by Sunway Resort. As always, our opinion is honest and our own.
