We are in the midst of a sweltering heat wave and what better way to cool down by munching on a freshly made frozen dessert. And preferably a healthy one, since it’s been hot everyday!
Kind Kones, an all-natural vegan ice cream and desserts brand, just opened up a branch in Damansara Heights. I took the kids to check out the new space and to try the different flavours of handmade ice cream and sorbets.
A healthy desserts corner
Having secured the first floor in a building on the main row of the Plaza Damansara shops (next to the CIMB Bank), it is easy to find. It is accessible to both neighbourhood residents as well as outsiders, since everything around Plaza Damansara is convenient to walk to, while there is plenty of street parking around. Kind Kones is located right above Tutti Frutti, a Californian frozen yoghurt store with a prominent classic psychedelic van parked outside.
Whilst Kind Kones already has a smaller branch located in Bangsar Village 1, their new outlet is pleasantly spacious and bright: its location in a corner building allows a lot of natural light to come in through the windows. The colours inside are light pastel and neutral, and there is ample seating space available, without feeling cramped, and the fact that you can gaze out of the windows makes it a great place to enjoy your ice cream.
Vegan, gluten- and dairy-free
I had my heart set out on trying the Almond Brittle Fudge, which scores high on customer reviews. My favourite, being crunchy and tasty… Very intrigued by their keto offerings as well, I tried out the Keto Avocado Coconut ice cream which wasn’t really what I was looking for in a dessert, but to each his own.
The kids tried out the gluten-free Mango Raspberry Swirl which tasted heavenly. It was light on the stomach and was not too sweet. The Watermelon Strawberry Mint sounded equally appealing but the ‘hint’ of lemon in it was a bit too dominant for our taste.
I wanted to try out more flavours – the friendly server kept beckoning us to come – but I could not fit another bite! As the offerings are vegan and gluten- and dairy-free, Kind Kones uses ingredients such as coconut milk, cashew and almond milk, and mascarpone (in the Tiramisu ice cream) while at times adding various nuts as well. I was very happy I had deliberately skipped my lunch, as the options I tried filled me up like a meal.
Delicious guilt-free ice cream
No space left to try anything else, but wanting more, I promised my kids to go back another time for their non-ice cream products. Kind Kones also offers cookies, cakes, donuts, and most intriguingly, the ‘Bliss Balls’ – basically nutritious energy balls or bites made of delicious nuts, dried fruits, chia and flax seeds and more.
Happy to have escaped the blistering heat outside, we enjoyed a delicious guilt-free munch afternoon. On top of that, we were treated to a wonderful souvenir to take home: a one-of-a-kind pre-waxed motif DIY embroidery, highlighting a Kind Kones and Batik Boutique collaboration, with accompanying dyes -have a look here for our batik workshop review. Ice cream and indoor activity: what more would we need in this weather?
