Did you see the Bat Signal flying high above Sunway Pyramid on 1 March? Don’t panic citizens of this city, a crime wave has not hit KL! But what has landed is the ultimate Batman experience. This free, exclusive event that takes place between 1 and 20 March in Sunway Pyramid coincides with the launch of the latest Batman film.

Wing your way to Batman Corner
If your teenager loves Batman there will be no masking their delight when they discover Batman Corner. There they will find fun games and activities, as well as having the chance to win prizes and check out the merchandise on offer.
Gamers are going to love playing Batman video games and you can even strike a pose flexing your muscles (big or small no one will judge you) next to a giant version of the main man himself.
The Riddler Corner – If your brain is bigger than your biceps, you’ll enjoy trying to solve some of The Riddler’s riddles. The hunt for clues will lead you through the area which has been transformed to replicate scenes from the new movie. So have your phone at the ready to capture some great photos.
Gotham City – Explore the skyscrapers in this city made from light boxes and that are highlighted by a bat signal light. Also get a sneak peak at the movie, as the trailer is projected onto the huge LED screen just below the official Batman logo.
Exhibition – Check out the exclusive display of Batman collectables, such as one of his actual head pieces, known as the cowl, localised Wayang Kulit or shadow puppets on loan from Warner Brothers and a batang (that’s a really cool bat shaped boomerang in case you didn’t know).
A DC Cosplay competition – Because it’s fun to dress up, every weekend starting on 4 March up until 20 March, Cosplayers can come dressed to impress as heroes and villains. There will even be a Cosplay competition on 13 March. Visit here for more details.
Prizes to be won – The top prize on offer at the event is a life sized Batman. This prize has been flown in exclusively from Germany, so you would be very unlucky if one of your friends also had one! However there are also Batman themed Funko Pops, t –shirts, hoodies and caps, as well as movie tickets and Batman Batarang to be won.
When and where to find Batman Corner – The entertainment area can be visited throughout the day, between 10am and 10pm. If your bat senses aren’t working too well and you’re not sure where to find this special event, head to the water feature on the ground floor near the Lush shop.
The Batman movie – no spoilers!
I was lucky enough to have a sneak preview of Robert Patterson’s first outing as the Caped Crusader. He is flying solo in the film, without his trusty sidekick Robin. However, Alfred, his faithful butler, is always on hand to help him defeat the usual suspects. In this case he has to work out what the completely psychotic Riddler, played by Paul Dano, is up to. He also has to try and stop The Penguin, played by an unrecognisable Colin Farrell, in his tracks. And if that’s not enough he has to keep his eye on Zoe Kravitz’s character Selina Kyle (aka Catwoman). The question is: does the bat fall for the cat?
We all know that Patterson can nail looking broody from his days as a teenage vampire, but now that he’s older can he spread his wings enough to play a convincing super hero? I wasn’t sure he could, so I was pleasantly surprised when he did. I have to say all the characters were really well cast and I simply loved the good cop, bat cop routine that Batman had with Commissioner Gordon played by Jeffrey Wright.
A word of warning, this film is a PG13 as some of the scenes are quite violent and at times it was disturbing. So it’s not really suitable for young children or sensitive souls. It’s also nearly three hours long, so you will need a big box of popcorn to see you through.
If you want to watch this latest offering, from the Warner Brothers, at the Sunway Pyramid’s TGV Cinema, visit the movie theatre on F1.01 on the first floor. To check out film times and book tickets visit here. This cinema has 11 theatres ranging from standard seats, IMAX, the fancy LUXE room and the Beanie bag option. I saw it in the IMAX and I can highly recommend the experience.
