A festive feast at Four Seasons Hotel KL

Curate, Four Seasons Hotel KL

We were delighted to accept an invitation from the Four Seasons Hotel KL to experience their festive buffet, aptly named Radiant Reverie. While buffets often focus on abundance, this one at restaurant Curate is all about quality. From classic Christmas favourites to tasty Moroccan specialties, cold cuts, and a delightful blend of traditional and local desserts, the selection is both diverse and refined.

Even though the venue isn’t overflowing with Christmas decorations – aside from the beautifully decorated entrance and a few elegant golden Christmas trees – it still exudes a festive ambiance. And of course, what’s not to love about Curate? Renowned for its inviting charm, impeccable service, and great food of course, the restaurant creates a warm and celebratory atmosphere perfect for the holiday season.

Delightful appetisers

First up on our plates were a few appetisers and it was hard to choose from the buffet – after all, there is only so much you can eat… Each dish was very nicely presented, showcasing the chefs’ dedication to create a visually stunning and delicious spread.

The Baba Ganoush was a delight, perfectly creamy with just the right drizzle of olive oil. It paired wonderfully with the fresh pitta bread. The Red Beetroot Salad, on the other hand, brought a vibrant tang to the table – its balance of sweetness and acidity made every bite refreshing and lively. Adding to the medley was a Fennel and Prawn Salad, which had a crisp texture and subtle flavours. The crunchy fennel, with anise-like notes, combined well with the juicy prawns.

On to the mains

Next up were some lamb and chicken, which were both finger licking good. The mint sauce was a tat too sweet though. Of course this was easily forgiven, considering the quality of the meat. Tender, roasted to perfection and bursting with flavour.

I had some Brussels sprouts as well to accompany the main dishes. They were perfectly cooked – soft and tender yet holding their shape. Oh, and there was another unique dish that caught my attention: sliced sweet potatoes topped with toasted marshmallows – it was an intriguing combination I hadn’t experienced before. While my dining companion wasn’t as enthusiastic, I could appreciate the creativity behind pairing two sweet flavours that surprisingly complemented each other. I’d say this one is sure to be a hit with the kids!

I had some cooked prawns, Moreton Bay bugs, and scallops, each a true delicacy and a seafood lover’s dream come true. There were some interesting sauces available to complement the seafood. I would have gladly come back for a second serving, if it wasn’t for the desserts beckoning me to come and try!

Sweet dreams are made of these

Ah, the dessert station – the grand finale of any buffet experience. By now, I was seriously wishing I’d worn something with an elastic waistband and questioning if I could manage even one more bite. Guess what: not only did I overload my plate with all that delicious sweetness, but I came back for a second serving. Mince Pies, Peanut Butter Mochi, Galette des Rois, Dark Chocolate Bonbons with vanilla filling, and some Malaysian local favourites like Onde-onde and Kuih Talam melted into a perfect blend of amazing flavours from both the West and the East on my plate. A great end of a very festive feast indeed!

Curate’s Radiant Reverie runs from 29 November to 30 December, 2024, excluding 24 and 25 December. Lunch is served from 1pm to 4pm, priced at RM193+ per adult and RM97+ per child. Dinner is available from 7pm to 11pm, with rates of RM250+ per adult and RM125+ per child.
