Playgroups in KL

Playgroups can save lives, really! If you need company and somewhere safe and fun to let the tiny humans get used to other tiny humans, you need a playgroup. By playgroup we mean generally a place where toddlers can play in a safe environment with a parent – who can have a normal adult chat if he/she so wishes.

However, in an environment generally geared more towards learning than fun, our list of free and paid options in KL evidently includes a few that are more structured and require a registration but they still fall in the “fun” category. The details may change so do check the organisers’ pages before heading out!

Ibu playgroups at the Ibu house in Sri Hartamas

Ibu is a unique space dedicated for parents and children with a variety of playgroups or just free play with dress up, train tracks, extensive kitchen, outdoor play equipment and water play. Playgroup costs RM10 per child for members, RM20 per child for non-members.

Playgroups are open to children aged 0-5 years and are held most weekday morning, plus occasional weekends and afternoons. They are mostly held at the Ibu house or at member’s condos or at play gyms. Parent volunteers coordinate playgroups and children can attend with a parent. Playgroup representatives are always needed – please email ibu@ibufamily.org to apply – Reps get free attendance plus other perks.

ABWM young families group

The ABWM has a young families group that meets at their house in Bangsar on Thursdays.

Eton House Playgroup

Playgroup Tuesdays and Thursday 9.30-11.30 for little ones aged 6-24 months. On a first-come, first-served basis, enquiries at plt@etonhouse.edu.my. RM200 for four sessions to be used up within the term.

Young Explorer’s Montessori Playgroup

Meant for children aged 2+ to 6 years. The children are free to choose their own activities according to their own capacities and natural interest, and most importantly they work at their own speed.

Playgroup Nest Messy play

Playgroup on Wheels

A brand new service by a local mother, this playgroup comes to your house and provides all the materials. Sessions start with sensory bin exploration followed by music and movement, a learning activity and mini science experiment/craft/open ended play. Sessions end with interactive story telling session. Minimum of 2 and maximum of 4 children, for children between 18 months to 5 years. Mini messy play sessions for up to 6 children can also be conducted, if parents are up for the mess. KLCC Playgroups

M.O.V.E.

M.O.VE. stands for Moving Off Virtual Entertainment, and is a service dedicated to the mission of getting kids to play. A team of people will organize good ol’ fashioned games in a team setting where the young ones and parents can play together and interact every fortnight. More info in their Facebook group.

Children’s Library Monthly Playgroup in Puchong

Every first Saturday of the month, 10-12 AM, for children up to 4 years old. Playgroup registration is open to Children’s Library members only. The Playgroup dates and registration information are available on their Facebook page.
