I am not much of a flower power gardener and long holidays finish off most plants I haven’t managed to kill myself. Nothing better than an excuse to drive down to the plants heaven (or hell, depends how you look at it) in Sungai Buloh. The road leading to Subang airport is lined with nurseries and shops selling all sorts of garden paraphernalia.
With trucks roaring by it is not a serene shopping experience but the selection is fabulous and prices seem better than nearer to town. Another similar stretch of garden shops is in Tropicana. Most of these photos are from a shop with a good variety of orchids towards the end of the row, the ones in the photos were priced between 30 and 40 RM. All shopkeepers have been open to friendly negotiations on prices.
To be fair, it’s not all for me:
On the way back we rewarded ourselves with a no-frills Vietnamese lunch in Kepong, as recommended by one of my favourite KL restaurant blog, Eat Drink KL. I can’t remember the last time I had such baguettes in KL: with a crunchy crust and soft, fluffy inside.
Another place to stop for a break pre or post your flower extravaganza is the fairly new Plaza Ativo in Sri Bandar Damansara. There are a few nice food & coffee establishments, more than usual outdoor space and even a small playground.
