There’s a special vibe to Ramadan events in Kuala Lumpur that’s hard to describe – it’s in the smell of local curries, in the clatter of plates, and the excited buzz going around people lining up for food stalls.
It was exactly that spirit that was alive at the Ramadan buffet at The Mesh, Four Points by Sheraton Kuala Lumpur, City Centre, where the rich traditions of Kampung Baru’s heritage met with warm, festive energy. The kampung-inspired theme came through beautifully, celebrating time-honoured recipes passed down through generations, neighbourly sharing, and the joy of celebrations enjoyed table to table.

First things first
I was thrilled to spot durian fritters on the dessert spread (yes, really – and indeed, they were just as good as you’re imagining). But as my plus one wisely pointed out, should we explore the rest of the offerings first? She managed to drag me away from the durian stall, and in hindsight, I’m glad she did. The overall spread was exceptional, but a few dishes in particular truly stood out.
The food at the ulam corner which would not normally be my go-to section, but the fresh vegetables paired with petai, terong, salty fish, beans, thinly sliced torch ginger and a bit of spicy sambal (three different types to choose from) was delicious, crisp, tangy, and perfect for resetting the palate between richer dishes.

The grilled fish was one of those dishes we kept going back for. Nicely charred with a gentle smokiness, the flesh was soft and flaky, and it didn’t need any sauce really. It felt comforting rather than heavy, and absolutely worth waiting in line for.
Satay is such a long standing favourite at any buffet and also this one was juicy, well–marinated (beef and chicken), and served with that classic peanut sauce that’s essential at any Ramadan buffet.

Traditional kampung dishes and local favourites like fragrant curries and slow-cooked chicken rendang brought a warm, authentic vibe to the buffet. The only thing that wasn’t quite our favourite were the kampung style soups, which were a bit too peppery for our taste – but spice lovers would probably feel right at home.
Space for dessert
Okay, back to the main dishes – I mean, the desserts. Beyond the durian fritters, the gula sago Melaka was a firm favourite, along with the pandan cheesecake and a lovely selection of traditional Malaysian sweets. One unexpected sight was a butter bread pudding, which felt more Christmas than Ramadan – but to be fair, it was very nice indeed!

Prices for the Ramadan buffet are RM218 nett per adult – good value for the breadth and quality of dishes on offer.
