Tucked away on the 11th floor of DoubleTree by Hilton Kuala Lumpur is Makan Kitchen. As the name suggests, Makan Kitchen celebrates Malaysian cuisine – Malay, Indian and Chinese food – take centre stage here. As a born and bred Malaysian, this fills me with enormous pride. Though fear not – there is also a Western section. For any buffet worth its salt, it has to offer up a variety and Makan Kitchen certainly delivered.
Jom makan!
The Indian section was the teen’s top choice. He simply ate up the Slow Roast Australian Lamb Shoulder with Varuval Spice, Signature Free Range Chicken Tandoori with Naan Bread to go along with both. I on the other hand, honed in on the Chicken and Beef Satay – these were tender, moist and flavourful. I wanted to eat a whole lot more but kept myself in check as there were plenty more stations to taste.
The kuih station was also a hit with me (who says no to kuih?! If you do, I might need a private word). For hot beverage options, there were Teh Tarik, Masala Tea and Ipoh White Coffee on offer. I thought that this was a nice change from the norm.
I had told myself to not forget the Chinese section (this is tucked away in another hall) as there was a steamed fish dish which looked really good but yes, you guessed it – I forgot. I was swept up in the many food options in the main food hall, and had by then stuffed myself and couldn’t eat anymore.
Makan Kitchen – let’s eat
Slow Roasted Wagyu Beef Leg and Spatchcock Jumbo Chicken were the specials for Christmas and both hit the spot. I also particularly liked the live grilling station – the Baked Salmon on Cedar Plank with Granny Smith Apple & Chestnut Stuffing, Grilled Lamb and Grilled Prawns were absolutely delicious.
There’s also the usual seafood on ice, and a variety of salads, along with desserts.
Overall, I thought that the Holiday Dinner Buffet had a good mix of local and western offerings. Each section had just enough to satisfy your cravings for the night.
The Holiday Dinner buffet runs from 1 – 30 December 2025 (except for 24 and 25 December 2025), from 6:30pm to 10:00pm.
Sundays – Thursdays: RM168 nett per adult and RM84 nett per child
Fridays – Saturdays: RM189 nett per adult and RM95 nett per child
