Festive delights at Vasco’s, Hilton Kuala Lumpur

It seems that Christmas previews start earlier and earlier each year – which is fine by me by the way, as I believe that Christmas should start in September! Yes, I’m one of those kooks – ha! Hilton Kuala Lumpur’s Christmas preview back in October suited my timeline of Christmas celebrations starting in September and I eagerly looked forward to it.

You will never miss Vasco’s at Christmas as the carollers are L-O-U-D. You can hear them from the main lobby area (which was surprising to some hotel guests back in October!).

Something different

The food on offer is pretty much the usual Christmas fare, except that this time round the main feature was Roasted Wild Venison. This was certainly a surprise – to me at least. The display was not exactly inviting but the meat was rich and earthy and went well with the black pepper sauce. Other carvings on offer that night were Smoked Glazed BBQ Beef Short Ribs (fall off the bone) and Jumbo Chicken.

The standout section for me that night was the live grilling section – Fresh US Oyster in Ginger and Garlic Sauce with Pineapple Salsa, and Salmon wrapped in Wild Pepper Leaf. Both were absolutely moreish!

We were also treated to samplers from Chynna, Iketeru and Graze – and all of them were winners! Perhaps I’ll go back and eat my way through all their outlets…..

Highlights at Vasco’s Festive International Buffet

For imbibing, they not only had Mulled Red Wine but also Mulled White Wine. Having Mulled White Wine was a first for me and I’m going to put it out there that I like Mulled White Wine so much more as it’s lighter and easy to drink – the only danger here would be that it’s too easy to drink!

There was also a chocolate cart (yes, you read that right) which was wheeled out by the Chef, featuring local chocolates. My absolute favourite was the Pahang Chocolate (I’m not being biased here simply cos I’m from Pahang). It’s dark chocolate coated in ganache, then baked in a chocolate shell, and finally coated in cocoa powder. One word – HEAVEN!!

What a delightful way to end our (early) Christmas meal!
