Dancesteps Studio proudly announces its debut independent production, A Touch of Tap — an exhilarating hour of dance that artfully blends the delicate artistry of ballet, the boldness of modern theatre, and the colourful energy of cultural dances, all infused with the joyful sparkle of tap. This first-of-its-kind Malaysian production delivers a show that carries a touch of tap in its entire narrative, placing tap dance at the heart of the performance.
A Touch of Tap invites audiences on a journey of tap dancing through music and movement, blending a wide range of dance genres with imaginative rhythmic storytelling. From classical melodies and whimsical Disney-inspired scenes to the soulful heartbeat of jazz and the graceful traditions of Malaysian dance, each piece offers a new perspective on rhythm, culture, and expression, with a careful thought on musical direction.

The production is led by Shirena Hamzah, who serves as both producer and artistic director. Choreographers include Shirena Hamzah, Clara Lim, Adeline Chew, Wong En Li, Raja Rozmin Rashid, and Joy Muttiah. The performance features the energetic talents of The PiTAPatter Jr. Tap Ensemble and students from Dancesteps Studio, with narration by Intan Shafinaz Mohd Suhaimi, who guides the audience through each chapter of this rhythmic story.
The show will feature carefully curated recorded music, blending seamlessly with live music performed by an outstanding jazz ensemble: Alex Douglas (saxophone), Casper Ng (keyboard), Faeez Halim (drums), Lim Seng Chee(guitar), Lim Seng Yean (bass), and Tengku Ayden Hazraque (saxophone), supported by guest appearances from student musicians and singers.
A Touch of Tap is a joyful, soul-stirring celebration of rhythm, culture, and collaboration — a one-of-a-kind experience that brings generations and genres together on one vibrant stage.

Taking place at the Petaling Jaya Performing Arts Centre (PJPAC) on Saturday, 1 November 2025, A Touch of Tap will be performed in two shows only — a matinee at 3:00pm and an evening show at 8:30pm. The production also launches a weekend of tap at PJPAC, continuing the following day with a performance by the Korea Tap Orchestra (KTO), a professional tap dance company from Korea.
