From 10 to 12 October, Pangkor Laut Resort hosted the third edition of its annual Opera in Paradise: Arias by the Sea, continuing a tradition of world-class artistry set amidst a two-million-year-old primary rainforest, overlooking the calm emerald waters of the Malacca Strait. Located on a private island, the resort was once again transformed into a natural amphitheatre where music and nature came together in remarkable harmony.

The event honours the legacy of the late Luciano Pavarotti, who once stayed and performed on the island. This connection was made possible through YTL’s long-standing commitment to culture and the arts. Inspired by this heritage, Opera in Paradise now brings internationally acclaimed artists to Pangkor Laut Resort each year to share their talents in a setting that embodies sophistication and natural beauty.
Led by Grammy-winning flautist and Musical Director Andrea Griminelli, a longtime protégé of Luciano Pavarotti, whose artistry has defined Opera in Paradise since its inception, this year’s concert featured a stellar ensemble: Laura Wright, the golden-voiced British mezzo-soprano returning to grace the island stage; Clarissa Spata, Australia’s rising soprano noted for her crystalline tone and dynamic presence; and tenor Gaetano Bonfante, whose rich voice channels the emotional legacy of Italy’s greatest masters. Their arias filled the evening with music, marking an occasion of rare grace and brilliance.

The event drew an audience of distinction, including Ambassadors to Malaysia from various countries, leading bankers, as well as devoted patrons of the opera, who revelled in the splendour of this renowned gathering while experiencing the resort’s newly refurbished accommodations and hallmark hospitality. The weekend offered a complete cultural and culinary immersion, beginning with a welcome dinner at Feast Village, where Pasar Malam, the resort’s open-air night market, presented a vibrant array of traditional Malaysian flavours and local delicacies. On performance evening, guests gathered for pre-concert cocktails at Fisherman’s Cove before proceeding to Samudra, a private enclave by the sea, for the main recital. The night concluded with a gala dinner featuring a specially curated menu by YTL Hotels’ Executive Chef, Mohan Deligannu, and his dedicated culinary team, offering a refined finale that mirrored the artistry of the evening.

Pangkor Laut Resort is delighted to announce that Opera in Paradise will return from 23 – 25 October 2026, an invitation for lovers of music and natural beauty to once again revel in an operatic celebration set against the island’s timeless charm.
